Real questions, and the tools your agent calls to answer them.
rule_321backup_gap_analysisbackup_frequency_recommendationbackup_location_referencecommon_backup_mistakesbackup_glossaryBackupPlan is a fully local data-backup-strategy toolkit. rule_321 explains the 3-2-1 backup rule (3 total copies, 2 different media types, 1 offsite) and why each number matters. backup_gap_analysis takes a data category and your real current backup locations and checks it against the rule — copy count, media-type diversity among your backups specifically, and offsite coverage, each checked independently — with prioritized recommendations for what's missing, and reports 'compliant' when nothing is. backup_frequency_recommendation takes how often your data changes and how costly losing it would be, and recommends an interval using the Recovery Point Objective (RPO) framework from IT disaster-recovery planning. backup_location_reference lists every recognized backup-location type with its media type and offsite status. common_backup_mistakes lists well-known pitfalls (sync isn't backup, RAID isn't backup, untested restores, no offline copy, no versioning). backup_glossary defines RPO, RTO, incremental/differential backup, air gap, and bit rot. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing about your data is stored.
Sources: Computed locally / hand-curated — the published 3-2-1 backup rule (US-CERT/CISA and standard IT disaster-recovery practice) and the Recovery Point Objective (RPO) framework; fully local, zero upstream calls

Everyone knows they "should" back things up; almost nobody can say precisely whether their current setup actually would survive a lost laptop, a dead drive, or a house fire. BackupPlan turns the well-known 3-2-1 backup rule into a real check against your actual setup, plus a genuine calculator for how often you should actually be backing up.
BackupPlan is a fully local, hand-curated data-backup-strategy toolkit. rule_321 explains the 3-2-1 backup rule (3 total copies, 2 different media types, 1 offsite) and why each number matters. backup_gap_analysis takes a data category and your real list of current backup locations and checks it against the rule — copy count, media-type diversity AMONG YOUR BACKUPS specifically (two external drives share a correlated failure risk even though the count looks fine), and offsite coverage — each checked independently, with prioritized recommendations for whatever's actually missing, and reports "compliant" when nothing is. backup_frequency_recommendation takes how often your data changes and how costly losing it would be, and recommends a real interval using the Recovery Point Objective (RPO) framework from IT disaster-recovery planning. backup_location_reference lists every recognized backup-location type with its media type and offsite status. common_backup_mistakes lists well-known pitfalls (sync isn't backup, RAID isn't backup, untested restores, no offline copy, no versioning). backup_glossary defines RPO, RTO, full/incremental/differential backup, air gap, and bit rot. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing about your data is stored.
Not a monitoring service and not a backup client — BackupPlan never touches your actual files or backups; it reasons about the setup you describe to it. It cannot verify that a backup you say exists actually works — testing a real restore periodically is still on you, and common_backup_mistakes says exactly why that step matters. backup_frequency_recommendation's interval is a planning heuristic derived from a real documented framework (RPO), not a guarantee tailored to your specific risk tolerance. Fully local, zero upstream calls, nothing stored.

What BackupPlan is. BackupPlan is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for data-backup planning — the 3-2-1 rule, a gap analysis of a backup setup you describe, a backup-frequency calculator, and reference material. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup or calculation.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — things like a data-category label (e.g. "photos"), a list of backup-location type keywords (never actual file paths, credentials, or device identifiers), a change-frequency or loss-cost tier, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from bundled reference data or computed on the fly, and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything. BackupPlan never connects to, accesses, or has any ability to see your actual files, backup software, cloud accounts, or devices — it only ever reasons about the category labels and location types you or your assistant describe to it in a tool call.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, or any of your actual data or credentials. We do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — all reference data is bundled with the server and every calculation runs locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. BackupPlan is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
