About

Cashcard is a hand-curated reference to general cash-vs-card payment norms. payment_norms gives one country's category — cash-preferred, mixed, card-preferred, or near-cashless — and practical notes. compare_countries lines up several countries side by side. countries_by_category and countries_by_region browse the 35-country dataset; regions_list and countries_list show coverage. payment_glossary defines contactless, chip-and-PIN, minimum card purchase, card surcharge, foreign transaction fee, dynamic currency conversion, and mobile/QR wallets vs mobile money. general_payment_tips gives practical, non-country-specific advice. dcc_warning explains the 'charge in your home currency?' prompt at foreign card terminals and ATMs and why declining it (paying in local currency) almost always gets a better rate. This is distinct from tipping norms, which a separate reference covers. GENERAL GUIDANCE, not a guarantee for any specific shop, taxi, or region — payment habits vary within a country and shift quickly. Keyless; fully local; nothing stored.

Sources: Hand-curated and cross-referenced from published payments-industry cash-usage research (Statista/WEF-style cashless-payment-share summaries) and general travel-industry reporting, via web search in September 2026; general guidance, not a guarantee for any specific venue

What Cash Or Card is for

"Is Japan a cash or card country?", "which countries are basically cashless now?", "should I say yes when an ATM offers to charge me in dollars?" — the payment-culture questions that come up the moment you land somewhere new, separate from the tipping question a companion reference already covers.

What it does

payment_norms gives one country's general category — cash-preferred, mixed, card-preferred, or near-cashless — with practical notes on where the exceptions usually are (markets, small vendors, rural areas). compare_countries lines up several countries side by side. countries_by_category and countries_by_region browse the 35-country dataset across Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East/Africa; regions_list and countries_list show exactly what's covered. payment_glossary defines the vocabulary you'll actually run into — contactless, chip-and-PIN, minimum card purchase, card surcharges, foreign transaction fees, dynamic currency conversion, and the difference between a mobile/QR wallet and mobile money. general_payment_tips gives practical advice that applies no matter the destination. dcc_warning is the one thing worth memorizing before any trip: when a foreign card machine or ATM asks whether to charge you in your home currency "for convenience," it is dynamic currency conversion, and it almost always gives you a worse rate than just paying in the local currency.

What it is not

General guidance, not a guarantee for any specific shop, taxi, or region. Payment habits vary sharply between a capital city and a rural town, between a tourist district and a local market, and are shifting fast almost everywhere as mobile payment adoption grows. Treat this as a starting expectation to pack for, not a rule that holds at every till. It is also intentionally not about tipping — a separate, dedicated reference covers gratuity norms.

Cash Or Card — Privacy Policy

Effective 26 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Cash Or Card is. Cash Or Card is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated cash-vs-card payment-culture reference — lookups, comparisons, category/region browsing, a glossary, general tips, and a dynamic-currency-conversion explainer. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a country name, a category, a region, a glossary term, or a list of countries to compare — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything. We never see your actual card details, purchases, or finances — this Service has nothing to do with processing payments.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, or any financial information — only the country and category names you or your assistant type into a lookup. We do not build a profile from your queries. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Cash Or Card is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Cash Or Card — Terms of Service

Effective 26 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Cash Or Card connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Cash Or Card returns a hand-curated reference to general cash-vs-card payment norms in 35 countries — category lookups, comparisons, region/category browsing, a glossary, general tips, and a dynamic-currency-conversion explainer. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP. This Service does not process, store, or have access to any payment card, bank account, or transaction — it is informational only.
  2. General guidance, not financial advice, not a guarantee for any venue. Payment habits vary within a country by city, venue type, and are shifting quickly. Content reflects general, cross-referenced patterns as of the build date stated in the Service's own data, not a survey of any specific business you might visit.
  3. Your responsibility. You are solely responsible for confirming accepted payment methods at any specific business, and for reviewing your own card issuer's terms (fees, foreign transaction charges, travel notifications) before travelling.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss, including a declined card, a poor currency-conversion rate, or an unexpected fee, arising from use of or reliance on this Service. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
