Keyless; fully local; nothing stored.
Sources: Author-list joining, title-casing, and per-style date/URL formatting rules are real computed logic verified against Purdue OWL, Scribbr, a Chicago Manual of Style author-date guide, and an IEEE citation guide; fully local, zero upstream calls

"Cite this book in APA", "format this journal article in MLA", "what's the Chicago citation for this website", "give me the in-text citation for this source" — real citation-formatting logic computed from the fields you give it, not a fill-in-the-blank template.
format_citation builds a reference-list entry in APA 7th edition, MLA 9th edition, Chicago (17th ed.,
author-date system), or IEEE style from structured fields — authors, title, year, publisher, container (journal or
site name), volume/issue/pages, URL/DOI, and dates. format_apa, format_mla, format_chicago, and format_ieee
are style-specific convenience wrappers over it. compare_all_styles runs one source through all four at once.
in_text_citation formats the parenthetical or bracketed citation used in running text — author-date for
APA/Chicago, author-page for MLA, a bracketed reference number for IEEE. validate_citation_fields checks which
fields a source type needs before you format it. list_supported_source_types and list_styles describe what's
covered.
The formatting logic is real, not a mad-lib template: it applies each style's actual author-list joining rules (when to invert a name, when to use "&" vs. "and", when a list collapses to "et al." and at what author count), sentence-case vs. title-case title conversion, per-style date formats, and per-style URL conventions (MLA prints a URL without its scheme; IEEE labels it "Available:"). It also detects likely organizational/corporate authors (e.g., a government agency) heuristically and does not invert or reduce them to initials the way it does a personal name.
This is careful, verified formatting — checked against Purdue OWL, Scribbr, a Chicago Manual of Style author-date guide, and an IEEE citation guide — not a citation database or a plagiarism checker, and it does not look up or verify that a source exists. A few known simplifications, documented so you're not surprised by them: name suffixes (Jr., III) aren't specially detected and are treated as part of the surname; sentence case only adds capitalization where a style requires it (first word, first word after a colon) and never removes capitalization you typed, so capitalize proper nouns in the title yourself; page-range elision (Chicago's "308-319" → "308-19") isn't applied — the full range you give is used as-is. Chicago here is the author-date reference-list system, not the notes-bibliography system. Always double-check output against your assignment's required style guide, especially for source types or edge cases (multiple works by the same author, republished editions, translated works) this connector doesn't specifically model.

What Citemaker is. Citemaker is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for formatting reference-list and in-text citations in APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago (author-date), and IEEE styles from the fields you provide (authors, title, year, publisher, and similar). You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one request.
What we receive. We receive the citation fields you submit (author names, titles, and similar bibliographic details) and the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is computed on our server and nothing is stored. Every tool is a local calculation or a lookup against a bundled, hand-curated reference; no request is forwarded to any third party. Text you submit is processed for that one response and is not logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, contacts, or account credentials, and we do not build a profile from your requests: each one is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — every tool is computed or looked up locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Citemaker is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
