Consulting fee-structure tradeoffs and a rate calculator built for consulting's own cost structure -- not a relabeled freelance formula

Real questions, and the tools your agent calls to answer them.
fee_structure_comparisonconsulting_rate_calculatorretainer_estimatescope_creep_prevention_referenceconsultingrate_glossaryConsultingRate is a consulting-fee-structure and rate-setting toolkit. fee_structure_comparison compares hourly, project-based/fixed-fee, retainer, and value-based pricing with genuine pros/cons. consulting_rate_calculator computes an hourly/day rate from target income and overhead using a consulting-specific billable ratio (default 50%, range 30-65%) -- materially lower than an execution freelancer's typical ~75% -- so it produces a genuinely higher rate for the same inputs. retainer_estimate derives a monthly retainer from an hourly rate and committed hours, with an optional volume discount. scope_creep_prevention_reference covers real contract-clause concepts: defined deliverables, change-order process, revision limits, milestone payments. consultingrate_glossary defines billable ratio, change order, utilization rate, and day rate. Not financial, tax, or legal advice.

The publisher, Unify Dynamics LLC, states that tool inputs are processed in memory and not retained.

"Hourly vs. value-based pricing for consulting", "what should my consulting rate be if I want $150,000 with $20,000 in overhead", "estimate a monthly retainer for 15 hours a month", "how do I stop a project from scope-creeping" -- the fee-structure and rate-setting side of independent consulting, answered locally with a calculator built for consulting's own cost structure, not a relabeled freelance-execution formula.
fee_structure_comparison compares the four common consulting fee structures -- hourly, project-based/fixed-
fee, retainer, value-based -- each with how it works and genuine tradeoffs (hourly is simple but caps your
upside and can misalign incentives around speed; value-based has the highest potential upside but requires
being able to credibly quantify the client's impact). consulting_rate_calculator computes a real hourly and
day rate from target annual income and annual overhead, dividing by required billable hours. Its billable
ratio defaults to 50% (range 30-65%) -- materially lower than an execution-focused freelancer's typical ~75%,
because winning and managing consulting engagements requires far more non-billable time on business
development, proposals, and relationship management. For the same income and overhead, this produces a
genuinely higher rate than an execution-freelancer-style formula, not a copy with a different label.
retainer_estimate derives a monthly retainer fee from an hourly rate, a committed monthly hour bucket, and an
optional volume discount. scope_creep_prevention_reference covers real contract-clause concepts: defined
deliverables, a change-order process, an out-of-scope-examples clause, revision limits, milestone-based
payment, and an assumptions section. consultingrate_glossary defines terms like billable ratio, change order,
utilization rate, and day rate.
Not financial, tax, or legal advice, and not a quoted market rate -- actual consulting rates vary enormously by industry, geography, and specialization. Use the calculator to reason about your own cost structure (your target income, your real overhead, your realistic billable ratio), not as a benchmark of what the market will bear. The fee-structure comparison and scope-creep reference are general concepts to adapt with your own contract's specific language and, where it matters, a lawyer's review.

What ConsultingRate is. ConsultingRate is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf to run a consulting rate/retainer calculation or a fee-structure reference lookup. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the numbers or lookup needed for that one tool call.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — income and overhead figures, an hourly rate, hours, a fee-structure name, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs. We have no way to know, and do not ask, who you are or which client engagement a number refers to.
Everything is computed locally from the numbers you provide, and nothing is stored. There is no upstream call at all — this connector has no dataset of real market rates and no live lookups, it is arithmetic on the numbers you send plus a bundled reference — and no request, including income, overhead, or rate figures, is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is computed independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — every calculation runs locally with no dataset of real market rates and no upstream call of any kind. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. ConsultingRate is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
