Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.
Sources: Hand-curated from well-established, widely taught general portrait/product-lighting technique, plus real computed photographic physics (stops-to-ratio exponential math, the inverse-square law) for the ratio calculator; fully local, zero upstream calls

"What's Rembrandt lighting?", "what's a 3-point setup?", "what's the actual lighting ratio for a 2-stop key/fill difference?", "what does a gold reflector do?" — a portrait and product lighting reference that pairs hand-curated technique with real computed lighting-ratio math.
lighting_pattern_info explains one of seven named face-lighting patterns — Rembrandt, butterfly, split, loop,
broad, short, flat — with key light position, the resulting look, who it flatters, and common mistakes;
lighting_pattern_list shows all seven. setup_by_light_count explains a 1-point (key only), 2-point (key +
fill), or 3-point (key + fill + rim/hair or background) setup.
light_ratio_calculator is the connector's core computed tool, with three modes: stops converts a key/fill stop
difference to an exposure ratio using real stops-based math (each full stop is a factor of 2, so a ratio is
2^stops : 1); distance applies the inverse-square law (intensity falls off as 1/distance²) to two light-to-subject
distances to get the same kind of ratio; ratio converts a ratio like 4:1 back to its equivalent stop
difference. All three are exact arithmetic, not looked-up values.
product_photography_tips covers lightbox/tent diffusion, reflector fill, and tabletop setup technique.
reflector_type_guide explains what a white, silver, gold, or black (negative fill) reflector each does to the
light. modifier_guide explains the light quality — soft or hard, wide or narrow — produced by a softbox,
shoot-through or reflective umbrella, beauty dish, ring light, snoot, or grid. recommend_pattern_for_goal
suggests a pattern or setup for a stated goal like slimming a round face, a dramatic mood, even beauty light,
minimizing skin texture, an all-purpose default, or a clean product shot. color_temperature_mixing_tips covers
daylight/tungsten color clashes and gel correction. lighting_glossary defines catchlight, falloff, specular vs
diffuse, key/fill/rim light, flag, gobo, the inverse square law, and color temperature.
Not a substitute for seeing the actual light on your actual subject. Lighting patterns and setups here are well-established, widely taught general photographic techniques, not rigid rules — the right choice always depends on the specific face, product, and mood you're going for. The ratio calculator's math is exact for the stops or distances you give it, but it doesn't know your actual light's output, modifier, or the room you're shooting in.

What Lightsetup is. Lightsetup is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated portrait/product lighting reference and a computed lighting-ratio calculator. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup or computation.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a lighting pattern name, a light count, stops or distances for the ratio calculator, a reflector color, a modifier name, or a stated goal — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from bundled, hand-curated reference data or computed locally, and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire reference is bundled with the server and every computation runs locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Lightsetup is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
