About

Rightsguard is a fully local, hand-curated creator-rights reference. fair_use_factors explains the US four-factor fair-use test (17 U.S.C. § 107) with what favors and weighs against each factor. fair_use_walkthrough takes a plain-language description of a use and returns the four factors plus matched considerations for things like parody, commentary, reaction content, compilations, cover songs, and AI training — never a yes/no verdict, since only a court can decide that. dmca_takedown_basics and dmca_counternotice_basics give the exact required elements of each notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3)/(g)(3), where to send one, and the bad-faith liability risk. dmca_readiness_checklist gives a practical pre-filing checklist for either sending a takedown or filing a counter-notice. content_claim_dispute_basics explains how automated content-matching claim systems generally work (a match is a claim, not a takedown) and the typical dispute path. watermark_approaches compares five methods — visible overlay, invisible/steganographic, metadata/C2PA embedding, forensic per-recipient marking, and hash/timestamp registration — and watermark_guidance gives photo- vs. video-specific placement advice. copyright_basics covers how US copyright arises, what it covers, why to register anyway, and duration. license_types explains all-rights-reserved, the six Creative Commons licenses, CC0, royalty-free, and rights-managed. rightsguard_glossary defines terms like safe harbor, moral rights, transformative use, first-sale doctrine, and work made for hire. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored. General information, not legal advice.

Sources: Hand-curated from the US Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §§ 107, 512) and widely published DMCA/fair-use practice as of build date; fully local, zero upstream calls. General information, not legal advice.

What Rightsguard is for

"What are the four fair use factors?", "how do I file a DMCA takedown?", "my video got a content claim, how do I dispute it?", "what's the difference between royalty-free and rights-managed?" — a practical, hand-curated creator- rights reference that explains how copyright, fair use, DMCA notices, watermarking, and licensing actually work.

What it does

fair_use_factors explains the US four-factor fair-use test with what favors and weighs against each factor. fair_use_walkthrough takes a plain-language description of a use and returns the four factors to weigh, plus any matched considerations (parody, commentary, reaction content, compilations, cover songs, AI training) — it never hands back a yes/no verdict, because only a court can decide that. dmca_takedown_basics and dmca_counternotice_basics give the exact required elements of each notice under the law, where to send one, and the real liability risk of getting it wrong. dmca_readiness_checklist turns that into a practical pre-filing checklist. content_claim_dispute_basics explains how automated content-matching claim systems generally work and how to contest one. watermark_approaches compares five watermarking methods with their pros and cons, and watermark_guidance gives photo- vs. video-specific placement advice. copyright_basics covers how copyright arises, what it covers, and how long it lasts. license_types explains every common license type from all-rights-reserved through Creative Commons to rights-managed. rightsguard_glossary defines the vocabulary.

What it is not

Not legal advice, and not a verdict machine. Every fair-use question is genuinely fact-specific, and this reference walks through the considerations rather than telling you what a court would decide. For anything with money, an account, or a legal deadline attached — a real takedown, a real dispute, a real filing — talk to a qualified attorney or check the specific platform's own current policy.

Rightsguard — Privacy Policy

Effective 25 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Rightsguard is. Rightsguard is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated creator-rights reference — fair use, DMCA basics, watermarking, content- claim disputes, copyright fundamentals, and licensing. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a use description, a role (sender/recipient), a content type, or a glossary term — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Rightsguard is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.

Terms of service

Rightsguard — Terms of Service

Effective 25 September 2026. These terms govern use of the Rightsguard connector ("the Service") operated by Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us").

  1. The Service. Rightsguard returns a hand-curated creator-rights reference: fair-use factors, DMCA takedown and counter-notice basics, content-claim dispute guidance, watermarking approaches, copyright fundamentals, and licensing definitions. It is accessed through an AI assistant or directly over MCP or HTTP.
  2. General information, not legal advice. Rightsguard does not practice law, does not review your specific facts, and does not tell you whether a specific use is fair use or whether a specific filing will succeed. Nothing in this Service creates an attorney-client relationship. For any real dispute, filing, or deadline, consult a qualified attorney licensed in the relevant jurisdiction.
  3. Reference, not real-time guidance. Content reflects general, widely published US copyright and DMCA practice as of the build date stated in the Service's own data, and does not reflect a specific platform's current internal policies, which change and vary by platform.
  4. Acceptable use. Automated use within the published rate limits is welcome. Do not use this Service's output as your sole basis for filing a legal notice, a lawsuit, or a formal dispute.
  5. Availability. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. We may change, limit or discontinue it at any time.
  6. Data. Our Privacy Policy describes what we process. In short: your query is answered from a bundled reference file, and nothing is stored.
  7. Pro keys. Optional Pro API keys are issued at our discretion, are personal to the holder and may be revoked for abuse.
  8. Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Unify Dynamics LLC is not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the Service — including reliance on any content as a substitute for legal advice. Our total liability is limited to US $100.
  9. Governing law. California law; venue in San Mateo County, California.
