Splice is a fully local video/photo production technical calculator toolkit. depth_of_field computes near/far focus limits, total depth of field and hyperfocal distance from focal length, aperture and subject distance, using the standard circle-of-confusion formula with verified CoC constants per sensor format (full frame, APS-C, Micro Four Thirds, 1-inch, Super 35). field_of_view gives horizontal/vertical/diagonal angle of view and full-frame-equivalent focal length. exposure_triangle solves for a remaining ISO/aperture/shutter-speed setting given a correctly-exposed baseline and one or two target changes, with real stops-based reciprocity math. frame_rate_timecode_convert converts timecode between frame rates with correct SMPTE drop-frame handling at 29.97/59.94fps. file_size_estimator and storage_capacity_calculator use Apple's own published ProRes data rates and YouTube's published H.264 bitrates (H.265 at its commonly-cited efficiency gain) to estimate file size and how much footage fits in a given amount of storage. aspect_ratio_convert computes centered crop-to-fill and letterbox/pillarbox-to-fit dimensions between aspect ratios. flicker_free_shutter_speeds gives the 180-degree-shutter-rule ideal speed and mains-frequency-safe shutter speeds for 50Hz/60Hz lighting. nd_filter_calculator and light_loss_stops convert between an ND filter's strength and its stop/shutter-speed effect. film_photo_glossary defines the core terms.
