Keyless; fully local; general reference, not veterinary or legal advice.
Sources: Hand-curated from public reporting (species lifespan and CITES/trade-status figures verified via web search) as of build date; fully local, zero upstream calls

Care needs, temperament, typical lifespan, noise level and talking ability for 24 common companion bird
species — budgerigar, cockatiel, African grey (Congo and Timneh), five macaw varieties (blue-and-gold,
scarlet, hyacinth, green-winged), two cockatoos (sulphur-crested, umbrella), two conures (sun, green-cheeked),
peach-faced lovebird, canary, zebra finch, two Amazon parrots (blue-fronted, yellow-naped), eclectus, quaker
(monk) parakeet, Indian ringneck parakeet, rainbow lorikeet, pionus, black-headed caique, and Senegal parrot
(species_info); a search across names, aliases and scientific names (species_search); a filter by keeper
experience level — beginner, intermediate, or experienced-only (species_by_experience_level); general
cage-size guidance by size category or a named species (cage_size_guide); general dietary guidance — the
pellet/fresh-food/seed balance, foods to avoid, and real species exceptions like the nectar-feeding lories or
the high-fat needs of hyacinth macaws (diet_guide); general, non-diagnostic health warning signs with a
strong reminder to contact an avian veterinarian promptly, since birds instinctively conceal illness
(health_warning_signs_guide); typical lifespan ranges verified against public reporting, framed as a serious
long-term-commitment consideration since companion bird lifespans vary from roughly 5 years to 65+ years by
species (lifespan_reference); CITES and trade-restriction notes where they apply, as a general,
non-binding pointer to check current regulations rather than a legal ruling (legal_and_conservation_notes);
and a glossary of common bird-keeping terms like molt, preening and zygodactyl feet (bird_glossary).
Not a substitute for an avian veterinarian or a wildlife-law authority. Health warning signs are deliberately general and non-diagnostic — birds are prey animals that hide illness well, so any of these signs is worth a prompt call to a vet who specializes in birds specifically, not a self-diagnosis from this reference. Legal and conservation notes describe CITES appendix status and known domestic restrictions (like invasive-species bans on Quaker parakeets in some U.S. states) as general background only — they are never a definitive ruling on whether owning a particular bird is lawful in your location, which depends on current national and local rules this reference cannot track in real time. Aviary covers companion bird species specifically — for general pet care across other animals, a sibling connector may cover that ground.
species_info — One companion bird species' care needs, temperament, typical lifespan, noise level, and talking ability. Use for "how do I care for a cockatiel", "is an African grey a good talker". Args: name.
species_search — Search the 24 companion bird species in this guide by partial name, common alias, or scientific name. Use for "do you have anything on caiques", "what's a pionus". Args: query.
species_by_experience_level — Companion bird species suited to a given keeper experience level — beginner-friendly through experienced-only. Use for "what's a good first pet bird", "which birds are only for experienced owners". Args: level.
cage_size_guide — General cage-size guidance — minimum dimensions and bar spacing by size category, or specifics for a named species. Use for "how big a cage does a cockatiel need", "what bar spacing is safe for a macaw". Args: species.
diet_guide — General dietary needs — pellet/seed/fresh-food balance, foods to avoid, and species exceptions (lories, eclectus, hyacinth macaw) — or specifics for a named species. Use for "what should I feed a budgie", "can birds eat avocado". Args: species.
health_warning_signs_guide — General, non-diagnostic warning signs that a companion bird may be unwell (fluffed feathers, tail bobbing, appetite change, and more), with a strong reminder to contact an avian veterinarian promptly since birds instinctively hide illness. Use for "what are signs a bird is sick", "how do I know if my parrot is unwell".
lifespan_reference — Typical lifespan ranges by species, framed as a serious long-term-commitment consideration for long-lived species. Use for "how long do African greys live", "how long-lived is a budgie compared to a macaw". Args: species.
legal_and_conservation_notes — CITES/trade-restriction status where applicable, as a general, non-binding note — not legal advice. Always recommends checking current national and local regulations before acquiring a species. Use for "is it legal to own a hyacinth macaw", "what's CITES Appendix I mean for parrots". Args: species.
bird_glossary — Definitions of common companion-bird terms (molt, preening, flock/social bird, zygodactyl feet, and more). Use for "what does preening mean", "what's a scream phase". Args: term.

What Aviary is. Aviary is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a companion-bird species care reference: species care needs, cage-size and diet guidance, health warning signs, lifespan figures, CITES/trade-restriction notes, and a glossary. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.
What we receive. The arguments of each tool call — a species name, an experience-level filter, or no argument at all — the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.
Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.
What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant, your name, or any information about a specific pet bird or its health, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).
Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.
Children. Aviary is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.
Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
