About

Boardgeek is a fully local, hand-curated board-game collecting & organizing reference. storage_tip gives practical tips for one storage topic (shelving, stacking, insert organizers, sleeved-card storage, binders, expansions, labeling, travel/transport, overflow & culling, small spaces). sleeving_guide gives real reference dimensions for named card-sleeve sizes (standard/poker, mini American, mini European, bridge, tarot, small square, jumbo square, chimera) plus general sleeving tips, hedging sizes that vary between manufacturers. cataloging_approach explains one way to catalog a collection (spreadsheet, dedicated app, barcode scanning, physical index cards, insurance photo inventory, tagging schemes, loan tracking, play-count logging, value notes) with pros, cons, and best-fit. rating_system_explainer explains, generically, how community rating/weight systems in this hobby tend to work (raw vs. weighted average, complexity/weight scale, rank vs. rating, player-count voting, hotness rankings, personal vs. community ratings, review vs. rating, outlier handling) without reproducing any specific site's actual scores. preservation_tip covers condition and preservation (sunlight, humidity, box crushing, corner wear, card wear, token care, rulebook care, cleaning, pests, moving, consolidating). collection_size_planner takes a number of games and returns a real, stated-assumption shelf-space estimate. term_glossary defines collecting-hobby vocabulary (FLGS, shelf of shame, insert, sleeved, mint in shrink, near mint, played condition, box wear, ding, KS exclusive, print-and-play, big box, component upgrade, geeklist, trade pile, table presence, punchboard, meeple). beginner_tips gives a curated shortlist for a new collector. Keyless; fully local; zero upstream calls; nothing stored.

What it is not

Not an official product of, or affiliated with, any brand, league, publisher, or organization it may factually mention. Boardgeek is a hand-curated reference and design tool, not a substitute for an official rulebook, certified instruction, or professional advice. Fully local, zero upstream calls, nothing stored.

Tools

Storage & Sleeving

storage_tip — Practical tips for one board-game storage/organizing topic (shelving, stacking, inserts, sleeved-card storage, binders, expansions, labeling, travel/transport, overflow & culling, small spaces). Use for "how should I store my board games", "what do I do with an overflowing collection". Args: topic.

sleeving_guide — Real reference dimensions for a named card-sleeve size, plus general sleeving tips. Sizes marked 'approximate' vary a little between sleeve manufacturers — always measure your own card first. Use for "what size sleeves fit Catan", "how big are mini American sleeves", "what's tarot card size". Args: card_size.

Cataloging & Ratings

cataloging_approach — One approach to cataloging a board game collection — spreadsheet, dedicated app, barcode scanning, physical index cards, insurance photo inventory, tagging schemes, loan tracking, play logging, or value notes — with pros, cons, and who it best suits. Use for "how do I catalog my board game collection", "should I use a spreadsheet or an app". Args: topic.

rating_system_explainer — Explains, generically and conceptually, how community game-rating/weight systems in this hobby tend to work (raw vs. weighted average, complexity/weight scale, rank vs. rating, player-count voting, hotness rankings, personal vs. community ratings, review vs. rating, outlier handling). Describes general concepts, not any specific site's actual database or scores. Use for "how does a weighted board game rating work", "what's the difference between rating and rank". Args: topic.

Care & Planning

preservation_tip — Condition and preservation tips for board games — sunlight/UV, humidity/warping, box/lid crushing, corner wear, card handling wear, token care, rulebook care, cleaning, pests, moving, and consolidating boxes. Use for "how do I protect my games from humidity", "how do I clean plastic miniatures". Args: topic.

collection_size_planner — Estimates shelf space for a given collection size: linear shelf cm/in (low/typical/high range), how many standard bookshelf shelves or cube-storage units that implies, and a size-appropriate recommendation. States its box-size assumptions explicitly since real box footprints vary hugely. Use for "how much shelf space do I need for 80 games", "how many Kallax cubes for 200 board games". Args: num_games.

Reference

term_glossary — Definitions of collecting-hobby vocabulary — FLGS, shelf of shame, insert, sleeved, mint in shrink, near mint, played condition, box wear, ding, KS exclusive, print-and-play, big box, component upgrade, geeklist, trade pile, table presence, punchboard, meeple. Distinct from game-mechanism terminology. Use for "what does 'shelf of shame' mean", "what's a KS exclusive". Args: term.

beginner_tips — A curated shortlist of practical tips for someone just starting to build and organize a board game collection, ordered from most to least essential. Use for "tips for a new board game collector", "what should I know before my collection gets big". Args: count.

Conventions

  • Read-only. Every tool reads public data or computes; nothing is written anywhere and nothing about the user is stored.
  • Result envelope. ok: true with data, or ok: false with a structured error (bad_input, not_found, upstream_error). degraded lists optional sources that were unreachable.
  • Rate limits. Free tier 60 tool calls/minute and 300/day per user (keyed on the user identifier supplied by the host agent, else client IP); Pro keys raise this. Over-limit calls return HTTP 429 with Retry-After. initialize and tools/list are never counted.

Boardgeek — Privacy Policy

Effective 25 September 2026. Unify Dynamics LLC ("we", "us"), Menlo Park, California.

What Boardgeek is. Boardgeek is a connector (an MCP server and REST API) that AI assistants and personal agents call on your behalf for a hand-curated board-game collecting & organizing reference — storage, sleeving, cataloging, and care. You interact with your assistant; the assistant sends us only the arguments needed for that one lookup.

What we receive. The arguments of each tool call, the technical headers needed to serve the request (an IP address or a client identifier supplied by the assistant, and a Pro API key if you have one), and standard server logs.

Everything is answered from a bundled, hand-curated reference file and nothing is stored. No request is forwarded to any third party — there is no upstream call at all, live or otherwise — and no query is logged in request bodies, recorded, or used to train anything.

What we do not receive or store. We do not receive your conversation with the assistant or your name, and we do not build a profile from your queries: each request is answered independently and nothing carries over between requests. Rate-limit counters (a client identifier and timestamps) are held in memory for at most 24 hours. Hosting-provider access logs, which contain IP addresses and request paths but not request bodies, are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

Sub-processors. None — the entire dataset is bundled with the server and answered locally. Hosting: Vercel (United States regions).

Legal bases and your rights. Our processing is necessary to provide the service you request through your assistant. Because we store no personal data beyond short-lived logs, requests to access, correct or delete personal data are usually satisfied automatically; you can still contact agent@connectorbay.com and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use your data to train models.

Children. Boardgeek is a general-audience service operated by the adult using the assistant.

Changes. We will post changes here with a new effective date.
