What BC Address Geocoder (BYOK) is for

BC Address Geocoder (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own BC Address Geocoder data through the BC Address Geocoder API with a key you supply (BC API Services Portal API key). Read-only: 9 tools (geocode_address, autocomplete_address, nearest_site, sites_near_point, sites_within_area, get_site, nearest_intersection, find_occupant, nearest_occupant). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to geocoder.api.gov.bc.ca. What it does

  • geocode_address: Standardize and geocode a British Columbia address or intersection; returns best matches with score, match precision, site ID and coordinates (lon, lat).
  • autocomplete_address: Suggest completions for a partial British Columbia address (type-ahead); returns best prefix matches with coordinates.
  • nearest_site: Reverse geocode: find the nearest known site (address) to a longitude,latitude point in British Columbia.
  • sites_near_point: List sites (addresses) near a longitude,latitude point, closest first.
  • sites_within_area: List sites (addresses) inside a bounding box.
  • get_site: Get one site (address) by its site ID.
  • nearest_intersection: Find the nearest road intersection to a longitude,latitude point.
  • find_occupant: Search public-sector occupants (schools, courthouses and similar) by name, optionally with '** locality', returning name, category, website and address.
  • nearest_occupant: Find the nearest occupant (for example a courthouse or school, filtered by tag) to a longitude,latitude point.

BYOK key

You bring your own BC Address Geocoder BC API Services Portal API key (https://api.gov.bc.ca/devportal/api-directory). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to geocoder.api.gov.bc.ca over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
