What Better Stack Telemetry (BYOK) is for

Better Stack Telemetry (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Better Stack Telemetry data through the Better Stack Telemetry API with a key you supply (Telemetry API token (team-scoped)). Read-only: 9 tools (list_sources, list_dashboards, get_dashboard, list_dashboard_groups, list_explorations, get_exploration, list_exploration_groups, list_alerts, get_alert). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to telemetry.betterstack.com. Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which log sources do I have in Better Stack and how long are they retained?"

What it does

  • list_sources: List the team's log and metric sources with name, platform, table name, retention days, region and ingest-paused flag (ingest tokens and transformations are not returned).
  • list_dashboards: List the team's dashboards (summary view): name, group, refresh interval, default time range and dates. Search by name or filter by dashboard group.
  • get_dashboard: Get one dashboard by id with its charts (type, name, position), sections and variables.
  • list_dashboard_groups: List the team's dashboard groups (folders) with name and dates.
  • list_explorations: List the team's explorations (saved queries and charts) as summaries: name, group, default time range and dates.
  • get_exploration: Get one exploration by id with its chart settings, SQL queries and variables.
  • list_exploration_groups: List the team's exploration groups with name and dates.
  • list_alerts: List alerts across all dashboards and explorations: name, type (threshold, relative or anomaly), operator, value, paused flag and where the alert lives.
  • get_alert: Get one alert by id with its thresholds, periods, missing-data behaviour, escalation target and metadata.

BYOK key

You bring your own Better Stack Telemetry Telemetry API token (team-scoped) (https://betterstack.com/settings/api-tokens/0). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to telemetry.betterstack.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
