What BioGRID (BYOK) is for

BioGRID (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own BioGRID data through the BioGRID API with a key you supply (BioGRID access key). Read-only: 8 tools (get_interaction, search_interactions_by_gene, search_interactions_by_gene_id_type, search_interactions_by_publication, list_interactions, list_organisms, list_identifier_types, list_evidence_types). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to webservice.thebiogrid.org. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by BioGRID. BioGRID and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Show BioGRID interaction 103"
  • "What does BioGRID list as interactors of human MDM2?"
  • "Which interactions involve RefSeq proteins NP_001119587 and NP_002383 in BioGRID?"
  • "Which interactions were curated from PubMed 18316726 in BioGRID?"
  • "Show some low-throughput human interactions from BioGRID"
  • "What organisms does BioGRID cover?"

What it does

  • get_interaction: Get one curated interaction by its BioGRID interaction id, with the interactors, experimental system, publication and throughput.
  • search_interactions_by_gene: Find interactions for one or more genes (official symbol, synonym or id) in chosen organisms; can include first-order interactors.
  • search_interactions_by_gene_id_type: Find interactions for genes given by an identifier type such as UNIPROT, REFSEQ, ENSEMBL or SGD instead of gene names.
  • search_interactions_by_publication: List interactions curated from given PubMed ids.
  • list_interactions: List BioGRID interactions in id order with optional organism, throughput and evidence filters, for browsing or paging.
  • list_organisms: List the organisms BioGRID supports with their NCBI taxonomy ids, for use in tax_id filters.
  • list_identifier_types: List the additional gene identifier type names BioGRID can match (UNIPROT, REFSEQ, ENSEMBL and others).
  • list_evidence_types: List the experimental evidence names (experimental systems) recorded in BioGRID, for use in evidence_list.

BYOK key

You bring your own BioGRID BioGRID access key (https://webservice.thebiogrid.org/). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to webservice.thebiogrid.org over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the BioGRID API (webservice.thebiogrid.org) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://wiki.thebiogrid.org/doku.php/biogridrest. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by BioGRID. BioGRID and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your BioGRID account.
