What Butter CMS (BYOK) is for

Butter CMS (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Butter CMS data through the Butter CMS API with a key you supply (ButterCMS read API token). Read-only: 10 tools (list_posts, get_post, search_posts, list_pages, get_page, search_pages, get_collection, list_authors, list_categories, list_tags). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.buttercms.com. Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What are the latest published blog posts in ButterCMS?"
  • "Show the ButterCMS post with slug hello-world."
  • "Search my ButterCMS posts for 'pricing'."
  • "List the landing pages in ButterCMS."
  • "Show the ButterCMS page 'example-news-page'."
  • "Find ButterCMS pages that mention 'warranty'."

What it does

  • list_posts: List blog posts with title, slug, summary, status, dates, author, categories and tags. Body is left out by default. Filter by author, category or tag slug.
  • get_post: Get one blog post by slug, including its full body, author, categories, tags and SEO fields.
  • search_posts: Search blog posts by title and body text; returns the same summary fields as the post list.
  • list_pages: List pages of one page type (or Single Pages with *) with slug, name, dates and content fields.
  • get_page: Get one page by page type and slug with its content fields. Use * as the type to search all page types.
  • search_pages: Search page content for text, optionally within one page type.
  • get_collection: Get the items of one Collection (custom structured content) by its key, paged.
  • list_authors: List blog authors with slug, name, title, bio and profile image. Email and social links are left out.
  • list_categories: List blog categories with name and slug.
  • list_tags: List blog tags with name and slug.

BYOK key

You bring your own Butter CMS ButterCMS read API token (https://buttercms.com/settings/). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.buttercms.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
