What CoinGecko (BYOK) is for

CoinGecko (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own CoinGecko data through the CoinGecko API with a key you supply (demo API key). Read-only: 7 tools (get_simple_price, list_coin_markets, get_coin, get_market_chart, get_trending, search_coins, list_supported_vs_currencies). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.coingecko.com. Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What is the price of bitcoin and ethereum in dollars and euros?"
  • "What are the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap?"
  • "Tell me about Ethereum: description, price and supply"
  • "Show bitcoin's price over the last 30 days"
  • "Which coins are trending on CoinGecko right now?"
  • "What is the CoinGecko ID of the Solana coin?"

What it does

  • get_simple_price: Get the current price of one or more coins in one or more currencies, optionally with market cap, 24-hour volume and 24-hour change. The answer is keyed by coin ID, then by currency code.
  • list_coin_markets: List coins with price, market cap, rank, 24-hour volume and range, supply and all-time high, ranked by market cap by default.
  • get_coin: Get one coin's profile: name, market rank, description, categories, homepage links, genesis date, and USD price, market cap, volume, price changes, supply and all-time high and low.
  • get_market_chart: Get price, market cap and trading volume history of one coin as lists of [Unix time in milliseconds, value] pairs. Granularity is automatic (5-minute for 1 day, hourly for 2 to 90 days, daily above that) unless interval is set. How far back a key can read depends on its plan; long ranges return many points and are cut off.
  • get_trending: Get what is trending on CoinGecko in the last 24 hours: trending coins, NFTs and categories with rank and price data.
  • search_coins: Search CoinGecko by name or symbol for coins, exchanges, categories and NFTs; returns their IDs and market cap rank, sorted by market cap. Use it to find the coin ID the other tools need.
  • list_supported_vs_currencies: List every currency code (fiat, crypto and units such as sats) that can be used as vs_currency or vs_currencies.

BYOK key

You bring your own CoinGecko demo API key (https://www.coingecko.com/en/developers/dashboard). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.coingecko.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
