What Currents API (BYOK) is for

Currents API (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Currents API data through the Currents API API with a key you supply (Currents API key). Read-only: 6 tools (get_latest_news, search_news, list_languages, list_regions, list_categories, check_api_key). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.currentsapi.services. Currents API and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What is the latest news in the technology category?"
  • "What news mentions Redwood Materials in the US this week?"
  • "Which languages does Currents API support?"
  • "Which countries can I filter Currents API news by?"
  • "Which categories does Currents API use?"
  • "Is my Currents API key valid?"

What it does

  • get_latest_news: Get the newest indexed news articles, filtered by language, country, category, source domain or author. The free plan allows 250 requests a day.
  • search_news: Search the news archive by keywords or a boolean query (AND, OR, NOT, quotes, parentheses) with date range, language, country, category and domain filters. The free plan limits the date span to 7 days. Use next_cursor to page deeper.
  • list_languages: List the language codes that can be used in the language filter.
  • list_regions: List the country codes that can be used in the country filter.
  • list_categories: List the news categories that can be used in the category filter of the v2 endpoints.
  • check_api_key: Check whether the key is accepted by Currents API.

BYOK key

You bring your own Currents API Currents API key (https://currentsapi.services/en/register). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.currentsapi.services over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
