What Datadog Service Catalog (BYOK) is for

Datadog Service Catalog (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Datadog Service Catalog data through the Datadog Service Catalog API with a key you supply (Datadog API key (US1 site, datadoghq.com)). Read-only: 6 tools (list_service_definitions, get_service_definition, list_apm_services, list_span_metrics, get_span_metric, list_apm_retention_filters). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.datadoghq.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Datadog Service Catalog. Datadog Service Catalog and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which services in my Datadog Service Catalog are owned by the payments team?"
  • "Show the Datadog service definition of checkout"
  • "Which services report APM traces in the prod environment of Datadog?"
  • "Which metrics does Datadog generate from APM spans?"
  • "Show the Datadog span-based metric checkout.latency"
  • "Which APM retention filters are enabled in Datadog?"

What it does

  • list_service_definitions: List Service Catalog definitions with service name, owning team, application, tier, lifecycle, description, tags, languages and links. Contact details are left out.
  • get_service_definition: Get one Service Catalog definition by service name: owning team, tier, lifecycle, description, tags, links and ingestion metadata.
  • list_apm_services: List the names of services reporting APM data in an environment (use * for all environments).
  • list_span_metrics: List span-based metrics: id (metric name), aggregation type, measure path, filter query and group-by tags.
  • get_span_metric: Get one span-based metric by name.
  • list_apm_retention_filters: List APM trace retention filters in execution order: name, filter type, query, sample rates and enabled flag.

BYOK key

You bring your own Datadog Service Catalog Datadog API key (US1 site, datadoghq.com) (https://app.datadoghq.com/organization-settings/api-keys). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.datadoghq.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Datadog Service Catalog API (api.datadoghq.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.datadoghq.com/api/latest/service-definition/. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Datadog Service Catalog. Datadog Service Catalog and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Datadog Service Catalog account.
