What Datadog Usage (BYOK) is for

Datadog Usage (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Datadog Usage data through the Datadog Usage API with a key you supply (Datadog API key (US1 site, datadoghq.com)). Read-only: 7 tools (get_usage_summary, get_billable_summary, get_hourly_usage, get_estimated_cost, get_projected_cost, get_historical_cost, get_usage_attribution_types). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.datadoghq.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Datadog Usage. Datadog Usage and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "How many infrastructure hosts did my Datadog account use in September 2026?"
  • "Is my Datadog infrastructure host usage above my commitment this month?"
  • "How many indexed logs did Datadog count per hour yesterday?"
  • "What is my estimated Datadog bill so far this month?"
  • "What will my Datadog bill be this month?"
  • "What did Datadog cost me in August 2026?"

What it does

  • get_usage_summary: Get monthly usage totals across the account: top-99th-percentile hosts (agent, infrastructure, APM), containers, custom metrics, events, RUM sessions, synthetics calls and more. Per-day detail is left out. Only available to parent-level (or single root) organizations.
  • get_billable_summary: Get billable usage for a month against commitments for key products: infrastructure hosts, APM hosts, indexed and ingested logs, ingested spans and custom metrics (billable, committed and on-demand amounts). Only available to parent-level (or single root) organizations.
  • get_hourly_usage: Get hourly usage measurements for one or more product families (for example infra_hosts, indexed_logs, ingested_spans, rum, synthetics_api, timeseries). Page with next_record_id.
  • get_estimated_cost: Get estimated cost for the current or previous month (delayed up to 72 hours): total and charges per product. Only available to parent-level (or single root) organizations.
  • get_projected_cost: Get the projected cost for the current month (available from around the 12th): total and charges per product. Only available to parent-level (or single root) organizations.
  • get_historical_cost: Get final cost of past months (available by the 16th of the following month): total and charges per product. Only available to parent-level (or single root) organizations.
  • get_usage_attribution_types: List the usage attribution types the account can report on.

BYOK key

You bring your own Datadog Usage Datadog API key (US1 site, datadoghq.com) (https://app.datadoghq.com/organization-settings/api-keys). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.datadoghq.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Datadog Usage API (api.datadoghq.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.datadoghq.com/api/latest/usage-metering/. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Datadog Usage. Datadog Usage and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Datadog Usage account.
