What dbt Cloud (BYOK) is for

dbt Cloud (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own dbt Cloud data through the dbt Cloud API with a key you supply (personal access token or service token). Read-only: 6 tools (list_accounts, list_projects, list_environments, list_jobs, list_runs, get_run). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to cloud.getdbt.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by dbt Cloud. dbt Cloud and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which dbt Cloud accounts can my token see?"
  • "Which projects exist in my dbt Cloud account?"
  • "What dbt Cloud environments do I have and which dbt version do they use?"
  • "Which dbt Cloud jobs are scheduled and have recently failed?"
  • "Did last night's dbt Cloud runs succeed?"
  • "What happened in dbt Cloud run 70471823?"

What it does

  • list_accounts: List the dbt Cloud accounts the token can access with plan, seat counts, lock status and run slots.
  • list_projects: List projects in a dbt Cloud account with description, connection id, repository id and creation time.
  • list_environments: List environments in a dbt Cloud account with project, dbt version, type and deployment type.
  • list_jobs: List dbt Cloud jobs with project, environment, steps, dbt version, schedule trigger flag and recent failure count.
  • list_runs: List dbt Cloud job runs, optionally for one job, project or status, with branch, commit, status and timing. Run status numbers: 1 queued, 2 starting, 3 running, 10 success, 20 error, 30 cancelled.
  • get_run: Get one dbt Cloud run by id with status, message, branch, commit, dbt version and timing. Run status numbers: 1 queued, 2 starting, 3 running, 10 success, 20 error, 30 cancelled.

BYOK key

You bring your own dbt Cloud personal access token or service token (https://docs.getdbt.com/docs/dbt-cloud-apis/authentication). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to cloud.getdbt.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the dbt Cloud API (cloud.getdbt.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.getdbt.com/dbt-cloud/api-v2. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by dbt Cloud. dbt Cloud and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your dbt Cloud account.
