What DEV Community (BYOK) is for

DEV Community (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own DEV Community data through the DEV Community API with a key you supply (API key). Read-only: 10 tools (get_authenticated_user, list_my_published_articles, list_my_unpublished_articles, list_published_articles, search_articles, get_user, list_followers, list_followed_tags, list_tags, list_reading_list). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to dev.to. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by DEV Community. DEV Community and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which DEV account is my API key connected to?"
  • "What articles have I published on DEV?"
  • "Which drafts do I have on DEV?"
  • "What are the top DEV articles tagged javascript this week?"
  • "Search DEV for articles about rust async"
  • "Show the DEV profile of the user 'ben'"

What it does

  • get_authenticated_user: Show the DEV account the key belongs to: username, name, summary, location, join date, linked GitHub and Twitter names and follower count.
  • list_my_published_articles: List your own published DEV articles, newest first, with reactions, comments, reading time and tags.
  • list_my_unpublished_articles: List your own unpublished DEV articles (drafts), most recently created first.
  • list_published_articles: List public DEV articles, by default featured ones by popularity, optionally for one tag, any of several tags, one author or organization, or the top of the last N days.
  • search_articles: Search public DEV articles by a phrase matched against titles, tags and body text.
  • get_user: Get the public profile of a DEV user by numeric id or username: name, summary, location, join date, GitHub and Twitter names.
  • list_followers: List the DEV users who follow you, with name and profile path, in the order of when they followed.
  • list_followed_tags: List the tags you follow on DEV with the weight (points) each carries in your feed.
  • list_tags: List tags used on DEV, most popular first, with their colours.
  • list_reading_list: List the articles you saved to your DEV reading list, with title, author, tags and reactions.

BYOK key

You bring your own DEV Community API key (https://dev.to/settings/extensions). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to dev.to over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the DEV Community API (dev.to) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://developers.forem.com/api/v1. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by DEV Community. DEV Community and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your DEV Community account.
