What Digital Ocean Databases (BYOK) is for

Digital Ocean Databases (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Digital Ocean Databases data through the Digital Ocean Databases API with a key you supply (personal access token with database read scope). Read-only: 12 tools (list_clusters, get_cluster, list_replicas, list_backups, list_databases, list_connection_pools, list_firewall_rules, list_events, get_online_migration, get_eviction_policy, get_sql_mode, get_storage_autoscale). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.digitalocean.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Digital Ocean Databases. Digital Ocean Databases and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which managed databases do I run on DigitalOcean?"
  • "What version and size is my database cluster?"
  • "Does my database have read replicas?"
  • "When was my database last backed up?"
  • "Which databases exist inside my cluster?"
  • "Which connection pools does my database have?"

What it does

  • list_clusters: List managed database clusters with engine, version, size, region, status, node count, tags and maintenance window. Connection strings, passwords and certificates are never returned.
  • get_cluster: Get one managed database cluster: engine, version, size, region, status, storage, tags, trusted sources and maintenance window. Connection strings, passwords and certificates are never returned.
  • list_replicas: List the read-only replicas of a cluster with region, size, status and storage. Connection strings, passwords and certificates are never returned.
  • list_backups: List the backups of a cluster with size and time, plus the backup schedule.
  • list_databases: List the logical databases inside a cluster (names only).
  • list_connection_pools: List the connection pools of a PostgreSQL cluster with mode, size, database and user (no connection details).
  • list_firewall_rules: List the trusted sources (firewall rules) of a cluster: type (droplet, kubernetes, IP, tag, app), value and description.
  • list_events: List recent events of a cluster (creation, maintenance, failover, updates) with type and time.
  • get_online_migration: Get the status of the latest online migration into a cluster: id, status and start time.
  • get_eviction_policy: Get the eviction policy of a Redis or Valkey cluster.
  • get_sql_mode: Get the SQL mode of a MySQL cluster.
  • get_storage_autoscale: Get the storage autoscale settings of a cluster: enabled flag, threshold percent and increment in GiB.

BYOK key

You bring your own Digital Ocean Databases personal access token with database read scope (https://cloud.digitalocean.com/account/api/tokens). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.digitalocean.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Digital Ocean Databases API (api.digitalocean.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.digitalocean.com/reference/api/reference/databases/. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Digital Ocean Databases. Digital Ocean Databases and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Digital Ocean Databases account.
