What Dovetail (BYOK) is for

Dovetail (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Dovetail data through the Dovetail API with a key you supply (API token (starts with api.; expires after 30 days)). Read-only: 11 tools (get_token_info, list_projects, get_project, list_data, list_highlights, list_insights, list_tags, list_channels, list_channel_themes, list_folders, list_docs). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to dovetail.com. Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which Dovetail workspace is my token connected to?"
  • "Which research projects do we have in Dovetail?"
  • "Give me the overview of Dovetail project p_1"
  • "What customer data entries were added to Dovetail recently?"
  • "What highlights did the team tag in Dovetail?"
  • "Which insights have been published in Dovetail?"

What it does

  • get_token_info: Show the workspace the API token belongs to (workspace id and subdomain); a quick check that the token works.
  • list_projects: List research projects of the workspace with title, author and creation time. Cursor paging, up to 100 per page.
  • get_project: Get one research project by id with its title, overview, author and folder.
  • list_data: List data entries (interview transcripts, survey responses, support tickets) with title, project and creation time. Content is not returned. Cursor paging.
  • list_highlights: List highlights (selected passages) with text, tags, note id and time range. Cursor paging, up to 100 per page.
  • list_insights: List insights (polished research findings) with title, folder and creation time. Cursor paging.
  • list_tags: List tags used to label highlights, with scope (project or workspace), board and group. Cursor paging.
  • list_channels: List channels (automated feedback analysis pipelines) with title and creation time. Cursor paging.
  • list_channel_themes: List the AI-generated themes of one channel, each with a title, summary and the number of data points; largest first by default.
  • list_folders: List folders that organise projects, docs and channels. Cursor paging.
  • list_docs: List docs (rich-text documents) with title, folder and creation time; content is not returned. Cursor paging.

BYOK key

You bring your own Dovetail API token (starts with api.; expires after 30 days) (https://dovetail.com/settings/user/account). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to dovetail.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
