What EPA AQS (BYOK) is for

EPA AQS (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own EPA AQS data through the EPA AQS API with a key you supply (AQS API key). Read-only: 10 tools (list_states, list_counties, list_sites, list_parameter_classes, list_parameters, list_monitors_in_county, get_daily_summary_by_county, get_daily_summary_by_state, get_annual_summary_by_county, get_annual_summary_by_state). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to aqs.epa.gov. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by EPA AQS. EPA AQS and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What is the AQS state code for Texas?"
  • "Which county codes does North Carolina have in AQS?"
  • "Which AQS monitoring sites are in Durham County, North Carolina?"
  • "What groups of air pollutants does AQS cover?"
  • "What is the AQS parameter code for ozone?"
  • "Which ozone monitors operated in Durham County, NC during 2023?"

What it does

  • list_states: List U.S. states with their two-digit FIPS codes used by the other AQS tools.
  • list_counties: List the counties of one state with their three-digit codes.
  • list_sites: List the AQS monitoring site numbers in one county.
  • list_parameter_classes: List the classes (groups) of pollutant parameters, such as CRITERIA or HAPS.
  • list_parameters: List parameter codes (pollutants and measurements) in one class; ALL lists every parameter.
  • list_monitors_in_county: List the monitors (samplers) in a county that operated in a date window, with site, parameter, operating dates and agency. Answer has a Header (status, row count) and a Body of rows. Please keep to the EPA limit of about 10 requests per minute.
  • get_daily_summary_by_county: Get daily summary values (such as mean and maximum) of one to five pollutants for a county. bdate and edate must fall in the same year. Answer has a Header (status, row count) and a Body of rows. Please keep to the EPA limit of about 10 requests per minute.
  • get_daily_summary_by_state: Get daily summary values of one to five pollutants for every monitor in a state. bdate and edate must fall in the same year; keep the window short, results are large. Answer has a Header (status, row count) and a Body of rows. Please keep to the EPA limit of about 10 requests per minute.
  • get_annual_summary_by_county: Get yearly summary statistics (mean, maxima, percentiles, observation counts) of one to five pollutants for a county. bdate and edate must fall in the same year. Answer has a Header (status, row count) and a Body of rows. Please keep to the EPA limit of about 10 requests per minute.
  • get_annual_summary_by_state: Get yearly summary statistics of one to five pollutants for every monitor in a state. bdate and edate must fall in the same year. Answer has a Header (status, row count) and a Body of rows. Please keep to the EPA limit of about 10 requests per minute.

BYOK key

You bring your own EPA AQS AQS API key (https://aqs.epa.gov/data/api/signup?email=you@example.com). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to aqs.epa.gov over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the EPA AQS API (aqs.epa.gov) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://aqs.epa.gov/aqsweb/documents/data_api.html. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by EPA AQS. EPA AQS and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your EPA AQS account.
