What FRED (BYOK) is for
FRED (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own FRED data through the FRED API with a key you supply (API key). Read-only: 9 tools (get_series, get_observations, search_series, list_releases, list_release_series, get_category, list_category_children, list_category_series, get_series_categories). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.stlouisfed.org. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by FRED. FRED and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.
Ask your assistant things like:
- "What is the FRED series GDP and how often is it updated?"
- "What is the latest US unemployment rate?"
- "Find FRED series about consumer price inflation"
- "Which data releases does FRED cover?"
- "Which series are part of FRED release 53?"
- "What is FRED category 32991?"
What it does
get_series: Get the description of one economic data series: title, first and last observation dates, frequency, units, seasonal adjustment, last update and popularity.get_observations: Get the values of one data series over time, as date and value pairs (values come as text). Can limit the date range, convert units (for example percent change) and aggregate to a lower frequency.search_series: Search for data series by words in the title or by series ID; returns matching series with title, frequency, units and popularity, most relevant first.list_releases: List the statistical releases FRED tracks (for example Employment Situation or Gross Domestic Product) with release ID, name and link.list_release_series: List the data series that belong to one release, with title, frequency, units and popularity.get_category: Get one category of the FRED category tree (name and parent); category 0 is the root.list_category_children: List the child categories of a category, to browse the FRED category tree from the root (0) downwards.list_category_series: List the data series in one category, with title, frequency, units and popularity.get_series_categories: List the categories that one data series belongs to.
BYOK key
You bring your own FRED API key (https://fredaccount.stlouisfed.org/apikeys). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.stlouisfed.org over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
Notices
This product uses the FRED® API but is not endorsed or certified by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Some series are owned by third parties: check each series' copyright notice before reuse.
