What GitHub Projects (BYOK) is for

GitHub Projects (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own GitHub Projects data through the GitHub Projects API with a key you supply (GitHub personal access token (classic with read:project scope, or fine-grained with Projects read permission)). Read-only: 9 tools (list_org_projects, get_org_project, list_org_project_fields, list_org_project_items, get_org_project_item, list_user_projects, get_user_project, list_user_project_fields, list_user_project_items). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.github.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GitHub Projects. GitHub Projects and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What GitHub projects does octo-org have?"
  • "Show project 3 of octo-org."
  • "Which fields and status options does project 3 of octo-org have?"
  • "Which items in project 3 of octo-org are not done?"
  • "Show item 8000 of project 3 in octo-org."
  • "What GitHub projects does octocat have?"

What it does

  • list_org_projects: List an organization's GitHub Projects with title, state, visibility and dates; optionally search by title.
  • get_org_project: Get one organization project by number: title, description, state, visibility and dates.
  • list_org_project_fields: List the fields of an organization project (status, priority, iteration, custom fields) with their data types and options.
  • list_org_project_items: List the items (issues, pull requests, draft issues) of an organization project with their title, state and link. Optional filter query.
  • get_org_project_item: Get one item of an organization project by numeric item id.
  • list_user_projects: List a user's GitHub Projects with title, state, visibility and dates; optionally search by title.
  • get_user_project: Get one user-owned project by number: title, description, state, visibility and dates.
  • list_user_project_fields: List the fields of a user-owned project with their data types and options.
  • list_user_project_items: List the items of a user-owned project with title, state and link. Optional filter query.

BYOK key

You bring your own GitHub Projects GitHub personal access token (classic with read:project scope, or fine-grained with Projects read permission) (https://github.com/settings/tokens). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.github.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the GitHub Projects API (api.github.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.github.com/en/rest/projects/projects. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GitHub Projects. GitHub Projects and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your GitHub Projects account.
