What GitHub Rulesets (BYOK) is for

GitHub Rulesets (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own GitHub Rulesets data through the GitHub Rulesets API with a key you supply (personal access token). Read-only: 9 tools (list_repo_rulesets, get_repo_ruleset, get_repo_ruleset_history, list_repo_rule_suites, get_repo_rule_suite, get_branch_rules, list_org_rulesets, get_org_ruleset, list_org_rule_suites). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.github.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GitHub Rulesets. GitHub Rulesets and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which rulesets protect octocat/Hello-World?"
  • "What rules does ruleset 42 of octocat/Hello-World enforce?"
  • "Who changed ruleset 42 of octocat/Hello-World and when?"
  • "Which pushes to octocat/Hello-World failed a ruleset this week?"
  • "Why did rule evaluation 6 of octocat/Hello-World fail?"
  • "Which rules apply to the main branch of octocat/Hello-World?"

What it does

  • list_repo_rulesets: List the rulesets that apply to a repository (its own and inherited from the organization) with target, enforcement mode, conditions and rules.
  • get_repo_ruleset: Get one repository ruleset with its rules, conditions and bypass actors.
  • get_repo_ruleset_history: List the edit history of a repository ruleset: version ids, editors and times.
  • list_repo_rule_suites: List recent push evaluations against a repository's rulesets (pass, fail or bypass) with actor, ref and commits.
  • get_repo_rule_suite: Get one rule evaluation (rule suite) of a repository: result and per-rule outcomes.
  • get_branch_rules: List all active rules that apply to one branch of a repository.
  • list_org_rulesets: List an organization's rulesets with target, enforcement mode, conditions and rules.
  • get_org_ruleset: Get one organization ruleset with its rules, conditions and bypass actors.
  • list_org_rule_suites: List recent push evaluations against an organization's rulesets across its repositories.

BYOK key

You bring your own GitHub Rulesets personal access token (https://github.com/settings/tokens). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.github.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the GitHub Rulesets API (api.github.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.github.com/en/rest/repos/rules. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GitHub Rulesets. GitHub Rulesets and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your GitHub Rulesets account.
