What GitHub Search (BYOK) is for

GitHub Search (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own GitHub Search data through the GitHub Search API with a key you supply (GitHub personal access token (code search requires an authenticated key)). Read-only: 5 tools (search_code, search_commits, search_users, search_topics, search_labels). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.github.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GitHub Search. GitHub Search and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Find files in octocat/Hello-World that mention 'deprecated'"
  • "Find commits that mention 'fix typo' in octocat/Hello-World"
  • "Find GitHub users in Pune with more than 100 followers who write Python"
  • "What GitHub topics exist about machine learning?"
  • "Which labels in repository 1296269 relate to bugs?"

What it does

  • search_code: Search file contents across GitHub with qualifiers such as repo:, org:, language:, path: and filename:; returns file name, path and repository.
  • search_commits: Search commits by message, author, committer, repo or date qualifiers; returns SHA, message, author name, date and repository.
  • search_users: Search GitHub users and organizations by name, login, location, language or follower counts (qualifiers such as type:org, followers:>100).
  • search_topics: Search GitHub topics (repository tags) by keyword; returns the topic name, short description, whether it is featured or curated and how many repositories use it.
  • search_labels: Search the labels of one repository by keyword in the name or description; the repository is given by its numeric ID.

BYOK key

You bring your own GitHub Search GitHub personal access token (code search requires an authenticated key) (https://github.com/settings/tokens). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.github.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the GitHub Search API (api.github.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.github.com/en/rest/search/search. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GitHub Search. GitHub Search and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your GitHub Search account.
