What GitLab (BYOK) is for

GitLab (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own GitLab data through the GitLab API with a key you supply (personal access token). Read-only: 11 tools (get_current_user, list_projects, get_project, list_project_issues, list_my_issues, list_project_merge_requests, list_my_merge_requests, list_project_pipelines, get_pipeline, list_pipeline_jobs, list_project_commits). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to gitlab.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GitLab. GitLab and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which GitLab account is my token connected to?"
  • "What are my most recently active GitLab projects?"
  • "How many open issues does gitlab-org/gitlab have?"
  • "What open bug issues does gitlab-org/gitlab have?"
  • "What GitLab issues are assigned to me?"
  • "Which merge requests are open on gitlab-org/gitlab?"

What it does

  • get_current_user: Show the GitLab.com account the token belongs to: username, name, state, organization, job title and profile link.
  • list_projects: List GitLab projects visible to the token, with visibility, stars, forks, open issue counts and last activity. Up to 100 per page.
  • get_project: Get one GitLab project by ID or full path: description, visibility, default branch, stars, forks, open issues and last activity.
  • list_project_issues: List the issues of one project filtered by state, labels, author or search text, with labels and dates. Up to 100 per page.
  • list_my_issues: List issues across all projects that you created or that are assigned to you, filtered by state.
  • list_project_merge_requests: List the merge requests of one project by state, author or target branch, with branches, draft flag and merge status.
  • list_my_merge_requests: List merge requests across all projects that you created, are assigned to, or are asked to review.
  • list_project_pipelines: List a project's CI/CD pipelines, newest first, filtered by status, branch or tag, with source and timestamps.
  • get_pipeline: Get one pipeline with status, ref, commit, start and finish times, duration, coverage and who triggered it.
  • list_pipeline_jobs: List the jobs of one pipeline with stage, status, failure reason, runtime and web link, newest first.
  • list_project_commits: List recent commits of a project branch with title, author, dates and web link, optionally filtered by file path or date.

BYOK key

You bring your own GitLab personal access token (https://gitlab.com/-/user_settings/personal_access_tokens). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to gitlab.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the GitLab API (gitlab.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.gitlab.com/api/rest/. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GitLab. GitLab and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your GitLab account.
