What Govee (BYOK) is for

Govee (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Govee devices and, with your approval of each change, change their state through the Govee API with a key you supply (Govee API key). Read tools plus 5 device-changing tools (set_power, set_brightness, set_color_rgb, set_color_temperature, set_light_toggle); each change runs only when confirm is yes, after you approved it in chat. 8 tools in all (list_devices, get_device_state, get_light_scenes, set_power, set_brightness, set_color_rgb, set_color_temperature, set_light_toggle). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to openapi.api.govee.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Govee. Govee and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which Govee devices do I have?"
  • "Is my Govee light H6601 on, and what color is it?"
  • "Which dynamic scenes does my Govee light H6057 have?"
  • "Turn off my Govee desk strip"
  • "Dim my Govee desk strip to 30 percent"
  • "Make my Govee desk strip red"

What it does

  • list_devices: List your Govee devices with model (sku), device id, name, type and the capabilities each one supports. Call it first: the other tools need sku and device. Limited to 30 calls per minute.
  • get_device_state: Get the current state of one device: online flag, power, brightness, color, color temperature and other capability values. Limited to 30 calls per minute per device.
  • get_light_scenes: List the dynamic light scenes (names with scene ids) a light supports. Read only; limited to 30 calls per minute per device.
  • set_power: Turn a Govee light or smart plug on or off (the powerSwitch capability). Use only on lights and smart plugs; do not send it to a door, lock or alarm device. This changes the physical device.
  • set_brightness: Set the brightness of a Govee light from 1 to 100 percent (the brightness range capability). Use only on lights and smart plugs; do not send it to a door, lock or alarm device. This changes the physical device.
  • set_color_rgb: Set the color of a Govee light as one RGB number (colorRgb capability). Use only on lights and smart plugs; do not send it to a door, lock or alarm device. This changes the physical device.
  • set_color_temperature: Set the white color temperature of a Govee light in kelvin (colorTemperatureK capability). Use only on lights and smart plugs; do not send it to a door, lock or alarm device. This changes the physical device.
  • set_light_toggle: Switch one secondary toggle of a Govee device on or off, such as a night light, gradient effect or one socket of a multi-socket plug. Use only on lights and smart plugs; do not send it to a door, lock or alarm device. This changes the physical device.

BYOK key

You bring your own Govee Govee API key (https://developer.govee.com/reference/apply-you-govee-api-key). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to openapi.api.govee.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Govee API (openapi.api.govee.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://developer.govee.com/reference/get-you-devices. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Govee. Govee and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It reads your Govee data and can change device state only when a specific action is approved and confirmed (confirm = yes); it never deletes, resets, sends messages or creates paid resources.
