What Grafana Content (BYOK) is for

Grafana Content (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Grafana Content data through the Grafana Content API with a key you supply (service account token (Viewer role is enough)). Read-only: 9 tools (get_library_element_by_name, get_library_element, list_library_element_connections, list_playlists, get_playlist, list_dashboard_tags, list_dashboard_versions, list_public_dashboards, list_snapshots). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to *.grafana.net.   • "Which dashboard tags are used in Grafana?"

What it does

  • get_library_element_by_name: Find a library panel by its exact name: uid, type, folder, version and number of connected dashboards. The panel JSON model is left out.
  • get_library_element: Get one library panel by UID: name, description, type, folder, version and connection count. The panel JSON model is left out.
  • list_library_element_connections: List the dashboards a library panel is used in (dashboard UID, connection id, creation time).
  • list_playlists: List dashboard playlists with uid, name and rotation interval.
  • get_playlist: Get one playlist with its interval and items (dashboard by uid, by tag, or by id).
  • list_dashboard_tags: List all dashboard tags in the organization with the number of dashboards using each.
  • list_dashboard_versions: List the saved versions of a dashboard with version number, creation time, commit message and parent version. Author names and the dashboard JSON are left out.
  • list_public_dashboards: List dashboards shared publicly: dashboard UID, title, enabled flag and slug. Access tokens are not returned by this tool.
  • list_snapshots: List dashboard snapshots with name, creation and expiry time, and whether they are stored externally. Snapshot keys and URLs are left out.

BYOK key

You bring your own Grafana Content service account token (Viewer role is enough) (https://grafana.com/docs/grafana/latest/administration/service-accounts/). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to *.grafana.net over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
