What Harvard Art Museums (BYOK) is for

Harvard Art Museums (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Harvard Art Museums data through the Harvard Art Museums API with a key you supply (Harvard Art Museums API key). Read-only: 9 tools (search_objects, get_object, search_people, get_person, list_exhibitions, get_exhibition, list_classifications, list_cultures, list_galleries). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.harvardartmuseums.org. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Harvard Art Museums. Harvard Art Museums and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Find Dutch paintings from the 17th century in the Harvard Art Museums"
  • "Tell me about Harvard Art Museums object 304069"
  • "Find Rembrandt in the Harvard Art Museums people list"
  • "Tell me about Harvard Art Museums person 27650"
  • "What exhibitions are on now at the Harvard Art Museums?"
  • "Tell me about Harvard Art Museums exhibition 4236"

What it does

  • search_objects: Search artworks and objects in the Harvard Art Museums collection by keyword, classification, culture, century, person or year made; returns title, date, medium, artists, credit line and image URL.
  • get_object: Get the full record of one object by its object id: title, date, medium, technique, dimensions, provenance, credit line, people, colors count and image URL.
  • search_people: Search people and organisations associated with the collection (artists, donors, authors) by name, culture or other fields; returns name, dates, culture and object count.
  • get_person: Get one person record by id: names, dates, culture, birth and death places, roles and external identifiers.
  • list_exhibitions: List exhibitions in the Harvard Art Museums records with title, dates and short description; filter by status or keyword.
  • get_exhibition: Get one exhibition by id with title, dates, descriptions and image.
  • list_classifications: List object classifications (Paintings, Prints, Sculpture ...) with the number of objects in each.
  • list_cultures: List cultures (Dutch, Japanese ...) used for objects with the number of objects in each.
  • list_galleries: List gallery rooms of the Harvard Art Museums building, optionally for one floor (0 to 5).

BYOK key

You bring your own Harvard Art Museums Harvard Art Museums API key (https://harvardartmuseums.org/collections/api). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.harvardartmuseums.org over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Harvard Art Museums API (api.harvardartmuseums.org) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://github.com/harvardartmuseums/api-docs. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Harvard Art Museums. Harvard Art Museums and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.
