What Hex (BYOK) is for

Hex (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Hex data through the Hex API with a key you supply (API token). Read-only: 8 tools (get_me, list_projects, get_project, list_project_runs, get_run_status, list_data_connections, list_collections, list_groups). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to app.hex.tech. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Hex. Hex and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which Hex user is my token connected to?"
  • "Which Hex projects were edited most recently?"
  • "When was the Hex project last published and how many views did it get?"
  • "Did the last runs of my Hex project succeed?"
  • "What is the status of Hex run 0192f1b0-1111-7222-8333-944455566677?"
  • "Which data connections does my Hex workspace have?"

What it does

  • get_me: Show the Hex user and workspace the token belongs to: name, role, last login and organization id.
  • list_projects: List Hex projects with title, type, status, owner, last edit and publish time and app views in the last 30 days. Newest first by default.
  • get_project: Get one Hex project by id: title, description, type, status, timestamps and view counts.
  • list_project_runs: List recent runs of a Hex project with status, trigger, start and end time and elapsed time.
  • get_run_status: Get the status of one Hex project run: state, trigger, timing and link to the run.
  • list_data_connections: List the data connections in the Hex workspace with name, type, description and sensitivity flags. Connection credentials and hosts are not returned.
  • list_collections: List Hex collections with name, description and creator id.
  • list_groups: List Hex user groups with name and creation time.

BYOK key

You bring your own Hex API token (https://learn.hex.tech/docs/api/api-overview). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to app.hex.tech over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Hex API (app.hex.tech) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://learn.hex.tech/docs/api/api-reference. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Hex. Hex and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Hex account.
