What Laws.Africa (BYOK) is for

Laws.Africa (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Laws.Africa data through the Laws.Africa API with a key you supply (Laws.Africa API token). Read-only: 9 tools (list_knowledge_bases, get_knowledge_base, search_knowledge_base, list_places, get_place, list_work_expressions_in_place, list_work_expressions, list_taxonomy_topics, list_taxonomy_topic_works). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.laws.africa. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Laws.Africa. Laws.Africa and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which Laws.Africa knowledge bases can I search?"
  • "What is in the legislation-za-municipal knowledge base?"
  • "What do Cape Town by-laws say about dog ownership?"
  • "Which African countries does Laws.Africa cover?"
  • "What localities does Laws.Africa have in South Africa?"
  • "List the Cape Town by-laws on Laws.Africa"

What it does

  • list_knowledge_bases: List the legislation and judgment Knowledge Bases your Laws.Africa plan can search, with their codes and descriptions (preview API).
  • get_knowledge_base: Get the name and description of one Knowledge Base by its code.
  • search_knowledge_base: Search one Knowledge Base for legal text matching a phrase and return the best passages with title, source link and relevance score. Counts toward the plan's daily call limit.
  • list_places: List the countries and localities (provinces, municipalities) the Content API covers, with their place codes.
  • get_place: Get one country or locality by its place code, with the localities inside it.
  • list_work_expressions_in_place: List the laws (works with their current expression) of one country or locality, with title, FRBR URI, type, year and commencement. The plan decides which places return data; Cape Town by-laws are open to every plan.
  • list_work_expressions: List laws across every place your plan can access, filtered by when they were created or updated, with title, FRBR URI and commencement.
  • list_taxonomy_topics: List the subject topics used to classify laws, as a tree with names and slugs.
  • list_taxonomy_topic_works: List the laws classified under one taxonomy topic.

BYOK key

You bring your own Laws.Africa Laws.Africa API token (https://platform.laws.africa/api-keys/). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.laws.africa over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Laws.Africa API (api.laws.africa) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://developers.laws.africa/llms.txt. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Laws.Africa. Laws.Africa and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Laws.Africa account.
