What MDBList (BYOK) is for

MDBList (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own MDBList data through the MDBList API with a key you supply (MDBList API key). Read-only: 11 tools (get_user, search_media, get_media_info, list_genres, list_top_lists, search_lists, list_my_lists, get_list, list_list_items, list_movie_updates, list_show_updates). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.mdblist.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by MDBList. MDBList and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "How many MDBList API requests do I have left today?"
  • "Find the IMDb id of the movie Jaws"
  • "What are the ratings and streaming services for IMDb title tt0073195?"
  • "Which genres can I filter MDBList lists by?"
  • "What are the most popular lists on MDBList?"
  • "Find MDBList lists about horror"

What it does

  • get_user: Show the MDBList account behind the key: username, plan, daily request limit, requests used and list limits.
  • search_media: Search movies and shows by title, optionally by year, returning type, year, MDBList score and provider ids (IMDb, TMDb, Trakt).
  • get_media_info: Get one movie or show by an external id: description, runtime, MDBList score, ratings from IMDb, Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes, Letterboxd and others, streaming services, certification and trailer.
  • list_genres: List the genre names and slugs MDBList uses, for regular titles or for anime.
  • list_top_lists: List the most liked public MDBList lists with owner, media type, item count and likes.
  • search_lists: Search public MDBList lists by title.
  • list_my_lists: List your own MDBList lists (including private ones) with type, item count and likes.
  • get_list: Get the details of one MDBList list by id: owner, name, description, media type, item count and likes.
  • list_list_items: List the movies and shows in a list, with rank, title, year and provider ids, filterable by genre and score. At most 1,000 items per call; page with offset.
  • list_movie_updates: List movies whose MDBList data (ratings, metadata, streaming) changed recently, with cursor paging.
  • list_show_updates: List shows whose MDBList data changed recently, with cursor paging.

BYOK key

You bring your own MDBList MDBList API key (https://mdblist.com/preferences/#api). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.mdblist.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the MDBList API (api.mdblist.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://mdblist.docs.apiary.io/. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by MDBList. MDBList and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your MDBList account.
