What Mediastack (BYOK) is for

Mediastack (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Mediastack data through the Mediastack API with a key you supply (Mediastack access key). Read-only: 5 tools (search_news, get_news_by_category, get_news_by_source, get_news_by_date, search_sources). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.mediastack.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Mediastack. Mediastack and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What is the latest news about electric vehicles in English?"
  • "Show me the latest business news from the United States."
  • "What did the BBC and CNN publish most recently?"
  • "What news was published between 2026-01-01 and 2026-01-07 about inflation?"
  • "What is the source code for the BBC?"

What it does

  • search_news: Search news articles by keywords, with optional language and country filters. Prefix a keyword with a minus sign to exclude it. Each call counts against the plan's monthly request quota.
  • get_news_by_category: Get news articles in one category (general, business, entertainment, health, science, sports or technology), optionally narrowed by country and language.
  • get_news_by_source: Get news articles from specific publishers by source code (find codes with search_sources), for example 'cnn, bbc'; prefix a source with a minus to exclude it.
  • get_news_by_date: Get news articles for a single day, a date range or a named period; keyword and category filters are optional. Historical dates need a plan that includes historical data.
  • search_sources: Search the catalog of news sources by name and get each source's code, category, country and language; the codes feed get_news_by_source.

BYOK key

You bring your own Mediastack Mediastack access key (https://mediastack.com/dashboard). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.mediastack.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Mediastack API (api.mediastack.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.apilayer.com/mediastack/docs/api-documentation. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Mediastack. Mediastack and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Mediastack account.
