What News API (BYOK) is for

News API (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own News API data through the News API API with a key you supply (API key). Read-only: 3 tools (top_headlines, search_articles, list_sources). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to newsapi.org. Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What are the top US technology headlines right now?"
  • "Find articles from last week about electric car batteries"
  • "Which English-language business news sources does News API cover?"

What it does

  • top_headlines: Get current top headlines by country and category, by a list of source ids, or by keyword. Country and category cannot be combined with sources. Up to 100 per page.
  • search_articles: Search articles from news sources and blogs by keyword, with optional source, domain, language, date and sort filters. Which dates are reachable depends on the plan. Up to 100 per page.
  • list_sources: List the news sources News API covers, with id, name, description, home page, category, language and country. Use the ids with the other tools.

BYOK key

You bring your own News API API key (https://newsapi.org/register). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to newsapi.org over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
