What Novu Environments (BYOK) is for

Novu Environments (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Novu Environments data through the Novu Environments API with a key you supply (secret key (US region)). Read-only: 7 tools (list_environments, list_environment_tags, list_environment_variables, get_environment_variable_usage, list_inbound_domains, get_inbound_domain, list_domain_routes). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.novu.co. Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which environments does my Novu organization have?"
  • "Which workflow tags are used in my Novu development environment?"
  • "Which environment variables are defined in Novu?"
  • "Which Novu workflows use the BASE_URL variable?"
  • "Which inbound email domains are verified in Novu?"
  • "Is mail.example.com verified for inbound email in Novu?"

What it does

  • list_environments: List the environments of the organization (for example Development and Production) with identifier, type and slug. API keys are not returned.
  • list_environment_tags: List the unique workflow tags used in an environment.
  • list_environment_variables: List environment variables by key, type, whether they are secret and timestamps. Values are not returned.
  • get_environment_variable_usage: List the workflows that reference an environment variable.
  • list_inbound_domains: List inbound email domains with verification status, MX record state, DNS provider and the DNS records that must be in place. Cursor pagination.
  • get_inbound_domain: Get one inbound email domain by name: verification status, MX state and expected DNS records (read only, does not trigger verification).
  • list_domain_routes: List the inbound routes of a domain (address, type agent or webhook, agent identifier) with timestamps. Cursor pagination.

BYOK key

You bring your own Novu Environments secret key (US region) (https://dashboard.novu.co/api-keys). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.novu.co over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
