What Nutritionix (BYOK) is for

Nutritionix (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Nutritionix data through the Nutritionix API with a key you supply (application key (x-app-key)). Read-only: 3 tools (search_foods, get_nutrition_from_text, lookup_branded_item). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to trackapi.nutritionix.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Nutritionix. Nutritionix and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Search Nutritionix for hamburger"
  • "How many calories are in 1 cup of mashed potatoes and 2 tbsp of gravy?"
  • "What are the nutrition facts of the product with UPC 49000000450?"

What it does

  • search_foods: Search common foods and branded products by name; returns matching common foods (with serving) and branded items (with brand, calories and a nix_item_id for lookup). Nutritionix no longer offers a public free tier, so a key needs an account arranged with Nutritionix.
  • get_nutrition_from_text: Get nutrition facts (calories, fat, carbohydrate, fibre, sugar, protein, sodium, potassium) for foods written in plain text such as '1 cup mashed potatoes and 2 tbsp gravy'; one entry per food. Nutritionix no longer offers a public free tier, so a key needs an account arranged with Nutritionix.
  • lookup_branded_item: Look up the nutrition facts of one branded grocery product by its barcode (UPC) or by a nix_item_id from search_foods; give exactly one of them. Nutritionix no longer offers a public free tier, so a key needs an account arranged with Nutritionix.

BYOK key

You bring your own Nutritionix application key (x-app-key) (https://developer.nutritionix.com/). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to trackapi.nutritionix.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Nutritionix API (trackapi.nutritionix.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docx.syndigo.com/developers/docs/nutritionix-api-guide. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Nutritionix. Nutritionix and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Nutritionix account.
