What OpenAI API account metadata (BYOK) is for

OpenAI API account metadata (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own OpenAI data through the OpenAI API with a key you supply (OpenAI API key). Read-only: 6 tools (list_models, get_model, list_files, list_batches, list_fine_tuning_jobs, list_vector_stores). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.openai.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by OpenAI. OpenAI and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which OpenAI models can my API key use?"
  • "Does my key have access to gpt-4o?"
  • "What files have I uploaded to OpenAI?"
  • "Are my OpenAI batch jobs finished?"
  • "What is the status of my OpenAI fine-tuning jobs?"
  • "What vector stores do I have in OpenAI?"

What it does

  • list_models: List the models the key can use, with id, owner and creation time (Unix seconds). Returns up to 50 models. Reads account metadata only: it sends no prompt and uses no tokens.
  • get_model: Get one model by id: owner and creation time (Unix seconds). Reads account metadata only: it sends no prompt and uses no tokens.
  • list_files: List files uploaded to your account with name, size in bytes, purpose, status and creation time. Does not return file contents. Reads account metadata only: it sends no prompt and uses no tokens.
  • list_batches: List your batch jobs with status, endpoint, request counts and key times (Unix seconds). Does not return batch results. Reads account metadata only: it sends no prompt and uses no tokens.
  • list_fine_tuning_jobs: List your fine-tuning jobs with base model, resulting model name, status, trained tokens and times (Unix seconds). Reads account metadata only: it sends no prompt and uses no tokens.
  • list_vector_stores: List your vector stores with name, status, size in bytes, file counts and last activity time (Unix seconds). Reads account metadata only: it sends no prompt and uses no tokens.

BYOK key

You bring your own OpenAI OpenAI API key (https://platform.openai.com/api-keys). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.openai.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the OpenAI API (api.openai.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://platform.openai.com/docs/api-reference. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by OpenAI. OpenAI and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your OpenAI account.
