What Open Exchange Rates (BYOK) is for
Open Exchange Rates (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Open Exchange Rates data through the Open Exchange Rates API with a key you supply (App ID). Read-only: 4 tools (get_latest_rates, get_historical_rates, list_currencies, get_usage). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to openexchangerates.org. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Open Exchange Rates. Open Exchange Rates and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.
Ask your assistant things like:
- "What are the latest USD to EUR, GBP and JPY exchange rates?"
- "What was the USD to EUR rate on 2024-01-15?"
- "Which currencies does Open Exchange Rates support?"
- "How many Open Exchange Rates requests do I have left this month?"
What it does
get_latest_rates: Get the latest exchange rates of currencies against the base currency (US dollars on the free plan), with the publication time.get_historical_rates: Get the exchange rates published on a past date (from 1999-01-01), against US dollars on the free plan. The symbols and base options need a paid plan.list_currencies: List the currency codes Open Exchange Rates supports with their names, as a code-to-name map.get_usage: Show your Open Exchange Rates plan name, monthly request quota, requests used and remaining, and which features your plan includes.
BYOK key
You bring your own Open Exchange Rates App ID (https://openexchangerates.org/account/app-ids). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to openexchangerates.org over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
