What Pinecone (BYOK) is for

Pinecone (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Pinecone data through the Pinecone API with a key you supply (API key). Read-only: 9 tools (list_indexes, describe_index, list_collections, describe_collection, list_backups, list_index_backups, describe_backup, list_restore_jobs, describe_restore_job). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.pinecone.io. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Pinecone. Pinecone and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What Pinecone indexes do I have and are they ready?"
  • "Describe my Pinecone index"
  • "Which Pinecone collections exist?"
  • "Describe my Pinecone collection"
  • "What Pinecone backups do I have?"
  • "When was my Pinecone index last backed up?"

What it does

  • list_indexes: List the Pinecone indexes of the key's project with dimension, metric, status, deployment spec (serverless, pod or BYOC), tags and host.
  • describe_index: Get one Pinecone index: dimension, metric, vector type, deletion protection, readiness, cloud and region or pod settings, and integrated embedding model.
  • list_collections: List the Pinecone collections (static copies of pod-based indexes) with status, size, dimension and vector count.
  • describe_collection: Get one Pinecone collection: status, size in bytes, dimension, vector count and environment.
  • list_backups: List the backups of all indexes in the Pinecone project with status, source index, cloud, region, record count and creation time. Page with pagination.next.
  • list_index_backups: List the backups of one Pinecone index with status, record count, size and creation time. Page with pagination.next.
  • describe_backup: Get one Pinecone backup: status, source index, cloud, region, dimension, metric, record and namespace counts, size and creation time.
  • list_restore_jobs: List Pinecone restore jobs with the backup restored, target index, status, completion percentage and times. Page with pagination.next.
  • describe_restore_job: Get one Pinecone restore job: backup, target index, status, completion percentage and times.

BYOK key

You bring your own Pinecone API key (https://app.pinecone.io/organizations/-/projects). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.pinecone.io over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Pinecone API (api.pinecone.io) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.pinecone.io/reference/api/introduction. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Pinecone. Pinecone and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Pinecone account.
