What Plain (BYOK) is for

Plain (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Plain data through the Plain API with a key you supply (Plain API key (machine user key, plainApiKey_...)). Read-only: 10 tools (get_workspace, list_open_threads, list_done_threads, get_thread, search_threads, list_label_types, list_tiers, list_tenants, list_help_centers, list_knowledge_gaps). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to core-api.uk.plain.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Plain. Plain and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which Plain workspace is my API key connected to?"
  • "Which Plain threads are waiting for us?"
  • "Which Plain threads were recently completed?"
  • "Show me Plain thread th_01H8XYZ"
  • "Find Plain threads that mention invoices"
  • "Which thread labels exist in Plain?"

What it does

  • get_workspace: Show the Plain workspace the API key belongs to: id, name, public name and creation time.
  • list_open_threads: List support threads that need the team's attention (status waiting for the team), newest first, with customer name, priority, tier, tenant and labels. Needs the thread:read permission. One page per call.
  • list_done_threads: List support threads the team has finished with (status done), newest first, with customer name, priority, tier, tenant and labels. Needs the thread:read permission. One page per call.
  • get_thread: Get one thread by id with status, priority, customer, tier, tenant, labels, first and last message times.
  • search_threads: Full-text search across thread titles, descriptions and message contents. Needs the thread:read permission. One page per call.
  • list_label_types: List the label types (tags) available for threads with colour, description and archived flag.
  • list_tiers: List the customer tiers with default thread priority and whether each is the default tier.
  • list_tenants: List tenants (customer organisations) with domain, external id and tier.
  • list_help_centers: List the help centers with public and internal name, type and publication time.
  • list_knowledge_gaps: List knowledge gaps (topics customers asked about that the documentation does not cover) with title, description and last seen time.

BYOK key

You bring your own Plain Plain API key (machine user key, plainApiKey_...) (https://www.plain.com/docs/graphql/authentication). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to core-api.uk.plain.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Plain API (core-api.uk.plain.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://www.plain.com/docs/graphql/introduction. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Plain. Plain and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Plain account.
