What PostHog Data Definitions (BYOK) is for

PostHog Data Definitions (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own PostHog Data Definitions data through the PostHog Data Definitions API with a key you supply (personal API key (with event_definition:read, property_definition:read and group:read scopes)). Read-only: 6 tools (list_event_definitions, get_event_definition, get_event_definition_by_name, list_property_definitions, get_property_definition, list_group_types). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to us.posthog.com, eu.posthog.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by PostHog Data Definitions. PostHog Data Definitions and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which events does my PostHog project track?"
  • "Show the definition of PostHog event 0197c1"
  • "What is the definition of the checkout_completed event in PostHog?"
  • "Which person properties does my PostHog project have?"
  • "Show PostHog property definition 0197d2"
  • "Which group types are set up in my PostHog project?"

What it does

  • list_event_definitions: List the event definitions (names of tracked events) of a project with description, tags, verification, hidden flag, enforcement mode and when the event was last seen. No event data is returned.
  • get_event_definition: Get one event definition by its UUID with description, tags, verification, hidden flag, enforcement mode and last seen time.
  • get_event_definition_by_name: Look up one event definition by its exact event name, for example checkout_completed.
  • list_property_definitions: List the property definitions of a project (names and types of event, person, group or session properties) with description, tags and numeric flag. No property values are returned.
  • get_property_definition: Get one property definition by its UUID with description, tags, numeric flag and verification state.
  • list_group_types: List the group types of a project (for example company or organization) with their index, singular and plural display names.

BYOK key

You bring your own PostHog Data Definitions personal API key (with event_definition:read, property_definition:read and group:read scopes) (https://us.posthog.com/settings/user-api-keys). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to us.posthog.com, eu.posthog.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the PostHog Data Definitions API (us.posthog.com, eu.posthog.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://posthog.com/docs/api/event-definitions. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by PostHog Data Definitions. PostHog Data Definitions and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your PostHog Data Definitions account.
