What Regulations.gov (BYOK) is for

Regulations.gov (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Regulations.gov data through the Regulations.gov API with a key you supply (api.data.gov API key for Regulations.gov). Read-only: 7 tools (search_documents, list_documents_open_for_comment, get_document, search_comments, get_comment, search_dockets, get_docket). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.regulations.gov. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Regulations.gov. Regulations.gov and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Find EPA proposed rules posted since 2026-01-01 about methane"
  • "Which documents are open for public comment right now?"
  • "Show the details of document EPA-HQ-OAR-2021-0317-0001"
  • "List recent comments mentioning 'pipeline' posted to PHMSA"
  • "Show the text of comment EPA-HQ-OAR-2021-0317-0123"
  • "Find rulemaking dockets about drinking water from EPA"

What it does

  • search_documents: Search Regulations.gov documents (rules, proposed rules, notices, supporting material) by keyword, agency, docket, type or posting date; returns title, type, agency, docket, dates and comment period.
  • list_documents_open_for_comment: List documents whose public comment period is open now, optionally narrowed by keyword, agency, docket or type.
  • get_document: Get one document by its document id (for example EPA-HQ-OAR-2021-0317-0001): title, type, agency, docket, abstract, posting and comment dates, Federal Register number, CFR part and file formats.
  • search_comments: Search public comments on Regulations.gov by keyword, agency, posting date or the document commented on; returns the comment title, agency and dates (use get_comment for the text).
  • get_comment: Get one public comment by id: comment text, title, agency, docket, parent document, dates, organization and attachment formats. Submitter contact details are not returned by this connector.
  • search_dockets: Search Regulations.gov dockets (rulemaking and non-rulemaking) by keyword, agency or docket type; returns id, title, agency and last modified time.
  • get_docket: Get one docket by id (for example EPA-HQ-OAR-2021-0317): title, agency, type, abstract, keywords, regulation identifier number (RIN), program and effective date.

BYOK key

You bring your own Regulations.gov api.data.gov API key for Regulations.gov (https://api.data.gov/signup/). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.regulations.gov over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Regulations.gov API (api.regulations.gov) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://open.gsa.gov/api/regulationsgov/. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not
