What RubyGems (BYOK) is for

RubyGems (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own RubyGems data through the RubyGems API with a key you supply (RubyGems API key (rubygems_...) with index_rubygems scope). Read-only: 12 tools (list_my_gems, get_gem, search_gems, list_gem_versions, get_gem_version, list_gem_owners, list_owner_gems, list_reverse_dependencies, get_gem_downloads, get_profile, list_recent_versions, list_my_webhooks). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to rubygems.org. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by RubyGems. RubyGems and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which gems do I own on RubyGems.org?"
  • "What is the latest version of the rails gem and what does it depend on?"
  • "Find Ruby gems for parsing HTML"
  • "Which versions of the rack gem have been released and when?"
  • "What are the dependencies of rails 8.1.3.1?"
  • "Who owns the rake gem?"

What it does

  • list_my_gems: List the gems your RubyGems account owns, with latest version, total downloads, summary and project link.
  • get_gem: Get a gem's latest version, total and version downloads, authors, summary, licenses, links and runtime and development dependencies.
  • search_gems: Search active gems by name or keyword; returns 30 gems per page with version, downloads and summary.
  • list_gem_versions: List every released version of a gem with platform, release date, download count, prerelease flag, license and required Ruby version.
  • get_gem_version: Get details of one gem version (optionally for one platform): downloads, release date, authors, licenses, required Ruby version and dependencies.
  • list_gem_owners: List the owners and maintainers of a gem with their handle and role.
  • list_owner_gems: List all gems a RubyGems user can push to, by user handle or numeric id.
  • list_reverse_dependencies: List names of gems whose latest version depends on a gem; only=runtime or only=development narrows by dependency type.
  • get_gem_downloads: Get the total downloads of a gem and the downloads of one specific version.
  • get_profile: Get a RubyGems user's profile by handle or id: id and handle (email only if the user made it public).
  • list_recent_versions: List gem versions released within a time window of at most 7 days, 30 per page, with downloads, authors and summary.
  • list_my_webhooks: List the webhooks registered under your RubyGems account, grouped by gem name, with URL and failure count.

BYOK key

You bring your own RubyGems RubyGems API key (rubygems_...) with index_rubygems scope (https://rubygems.org/profile/api_keys). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to rubygems.org over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the RubyGems API (rubygems.org) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://guides.rubygems.org/rubygems-org-api/. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by RubyGems. RubyGems and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your RubyGems account.
