What Shortcut (BYOK) is for

Shortcut (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Shortcut data through the Shortcut API with a key you supply (Shortcut API token). Read-only: 12 tools (get_current_member, list_members, search_stories, get_story, list_story_comments, list_epics, list_epic_stories, list_iterations, list_iteration_stories, list_workflows, list_teams, list_projects). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.app.shortcut.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Shortcut. Shortcut and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which Shortcut member and workspace is my token connected to?"
  • "Who are the members of my Shortcut workspace?"
  • "Which Shortcut stories mentioning checkout are not finished yet?"
  • "Show me the details of Shortcut story 123."
  • "What comments are on Shortcut story 123?"
  • "What epics do we have in Shortcut and how far along are they?"

What it does

  • get_current_member: Show the Shortcut member the API token belongs to: name, mention name, role and workspace name.
  • list_members: List the members of the Shortcut workspace with name, mention name, email address, role and disabled flag.
  • search_stories: Search Shortcut stories with Shortcut search operators (for example 'is:story owner:jane state:"In Development"'). Returns story name, type, state id, epic, iteration, owners and dates, with a next-page token.
  • get_story: Get one Shortcut story: description, type, state id, estimate, deadline, owners, labels, tasks and comments.
  • list_story_comments: List the comments on one Shortcut story with author id, text and dates.
  • list_epics: List Shortcut epics (all of them, without paging) with state, dates, owners and story counts. Epic IDs are used by list_epic_stories.
  • list_epic_stories: List the stories that belong to one Shortcut epic with state, estimate, owners and dates.
  • list_iterations: List Shortcut iterations (sprints) with status, start and end dates and story and point counts.
  • list_iteration_stories: List the stories in one Shortcut iteration with state, estimate, owners and dates.
  • list_workflows: List Shortcut workflows with their states (id, name, type), to turn the workflow_state_id of a story into a state name.
  • list_teams: List Shortcut teams (groups) with mention name, member ids and story counts.
  • list_projects: List Shortcut projects (the older way of grouping stories) with abbreviation, team and story counts.

BYOK key

You bring your own Shortcut Shortcut API token (https://app.shortcut.com/settings/account/api-tokens). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.app.shortcut.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Shortcut API (api.app.shortcut.com) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://developer.shortcut.com/api/rest/v3. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Shortcut. Shortcut and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Shortcut account.
