What Sofar Ocean (BYOK) is for
Sofar Ocean (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Sofar Ocean data through the Sofar Ocean API with a key you supply (Sofar API token). Read-only: 7 tools (list_spotters, get_latest_data, get_historical_data, search_spotters_by_area, get_sensor_data, get_sensor_configuration_history, list_wave_spectra_locations). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.sofarocean.com. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Sofar Ocean. Sofar Ocean and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.
Ask your assistant things like:
- "Which Sofar Spotter buoys can I see?"
- "What are the current wave conditions at Sofar Spotter SPOT-0018?"
- "Show wave heights at Sofar Spotter SPOT-0018 for the first days of February 2026"
- "Which of my Sofar buoys reported waves near San Francisco in early February 2026?"
- "What did the Smart Mooring sensors on SPOT-0222 report on 1 December 2021?"
- "How was the Smart Mooring on SPOT-31082C configured in December 2025?"
What it does
list_spotters: List the Spotter buoys you can access (registered to or shared with your account) with id, display name and hull type.get_latest_data: Get the most recent transmission of one Spotter: battery, latest wave height and period, and optionally wind, surface temperature and barometer samples with positions.get_historical_data: Get waves and optional wind, surface temperature, barometer and position data of one Spotter between two dates (default 20 samples, at most 500). Shared buoys only return the last 30 days.search_spotters_by_area: Beta: get samples from buoys registered to your account inside a circle or rectangle during a time window (shared buoys are not included). Paged through the cursor URL in metadata.get_sensor_data: Get Smart Mooring sensor samples (for example subsurface temperature) of one Spotter between two dates with sensor position, units and value.get_sensor_configuration_history: Get the Smart Mooring sensor configurations a Spotter reported between two dates (only available from June 2025 onward).list_wave_spectra_locations: List the grid points (0.5 degree) for which you have access to the 7-day operational wave spectra forecast, with their data file URL.
BYOK key
You bring your own Sofar Ocean Sofar API token (https://spotter.sofarocean.com/api). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.sofarocean.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
