What Steel (BYOK) is for

Steel (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own Steel data through the Steel API with a key you supply (Steel API key). Read-only: 9 tools (list_sessions, get_session, list_session_files, get_session_captcha_status, list_profiles, get_profile, list_extensions, list_files, list_credentials). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.steel.dev. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Steel. Steel and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "Which Steel browser sessions are live right now?"
  • "Show Steel session 0d2f4c1e"
  • "Which files did Steel session 0d2f4c1e download?"
  • "Is Steel session 0d2f4c1e stuck on a captcha?"
  • "Which Steel browser profiles do I have?"
  • "Show Steel profile 7c1a2b3d"

What it does

  • list_sessions: List browser sessions of your organization with status, duration, credits used, proxy traffic, region and settings; filter by status; paged by cursor.
  • get_session: Get one browser session: status, duration, credits used, proxy bytes, region, profile and viewport settings.
  • list_session_files: List the files a session downloaded or holds, with path, size and last-modified time.
  • get_session_captcha_status: Show per page whether a session is currently solving a captcha and when it was last updated.
  • list_profiles: List saved browser profiles with status, source session, extensions, user agent and viewport size.
  • get_profile: Get one browser profile: status, source session, extensions, user agent and viewport size.
  • list_extensions: List uploaded browser extensions with id, name and creation and update times.
  • list_files: List the files stored in your organization's global Steel file storage, with path, size and last-modified time.
  • list_credentials: List stored credential entries by label, origin and namespace (secret values are never returned).

BYOK key

You bring your own Steel Steel API key (https://app.steel.dev/settings/api-keys). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.steel.dev over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.

Data sources

Live from the Steel API (api.steel.dev) with a BYOK key; documentation: https://docs.steel.dev/overview/sessions-api/overview. Endpoints checked against that documentation on 2026-10-16.

What it is not

Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Steel. Steel and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with. It is read-only: it never creates, changes, sends or deletes anything in your Steel account.
