What TMDB (BYOK) is for

TMDB (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own TMDB data through the TMDB API with a key you supply (API read access token). Read-only: 12 tools (search_movies, search_tv, get_movie, get_tv_show, get_movie_cast, get_movie_crew, get_tv_cast, get_trending, discover_movies, discover_tv, get_movie_genres, get_tv_genres). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.themoviedb.org. Unofficial connector by Unify Dynamics LLC: not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by TMDB. TMDB and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

  • "Find the movie Inception on TMDB"
  • "Find the TV show Breaking Bad on TMDB"
  • "How long is the movie Fight Club and what is its TMDB rating?"
  • "How many seasons does Breaking Bad have and when did it end?"
  • "Who stars in the movie Fight Club?"
  • "Who directed the movie Fight Club?"

What it does

  • search_movies: Search movies by title; returns id, title, release date, overview, rating and popularity, 20 per page. Use the id with get_movie.
  • search_tv: Search TV series by name; returns id, name, first air date, overview, rating and popularity, 20 per page. Use the id with get_tv_show.
  • get_movie: Get one movie: title, tagline, overview, release date, runtime, genres, budget, revenue, status, rating, production companies, languages and IMDb id.
  • get_tv_show: Get one TV series: overview, genres, status, first and last air date, seasons and episode counts, networks, creators, last and next episode and rating.
  • get_movie_cast: List a movie's cast in billing order with character names, at most 40 people.
  • get_movie_crew: List a movie's crew with department and job (director, writer, producer, composer ...), at most 60 people.
  • get_tv_cast: List the cast of a TV series' latest season in billing order with character names, at most 40 people.
  • get_trending: List what is trending on TMDB today or this week across movies, TV and people. Rows carry media_type (movie, tv or person).
  • discover_movies: Find movies by filters such as genre, year, minimum rating, vote count, original language and cast, sorted by popularity, rating, revenue or date, 20 per page. Genre ids come from get_movie_genres.
  • discover_tv: Find TV series by filters such as genre, first air year, minimum rating, vote count, original language and network, sorted by popularity, rating or date, 20 per page. Genre ids come from get_tv_genres.
  • get_movie_genres: List TMDB's movie genres with their numeric ids (for the with_genres filter of discover_movies).
  • get_tv_genres: List TMDB's TV genres with their numeric ids (for the with_genres filter of discover_tv).

BYOK key

You bring your own TMDB API read access token (https://www.themoviedb.org/settings/api). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.themoviedb.org over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
