What UK Energy Performance Certificates (BYOK) is for

UK Energy Performance Certificates (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own UK Energy Performance Certificates data through the UK Energy Performance Certificates API with a key you supply (Energy Performance of Buildings Data API bearer token). Read-only: 7 tools (get_certificate, search_domestic_certificates, search_non_domestic_certificates, search_display_certificates, list_certificate_changes, list_code_tables, get_code_values). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to api.get-energy-performance-data.communities.gov.uk. UK Energy Performance Certificates and its logos are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which service the connector works with.

Ask your assistant things like:

  • "What is the energy rating of certificate 0000-1672-0000-1732-0000?"
  • "Which homes in postcode LS1 4AP have an energy rating of F or G?"
  • "Which commercial buildings in Manchester were certified in March 2025?"
  • "Which public buildings in Bristol have a display energy certificate?"
  • "Which energy certificates were removed last week?"
  • "Which coded fields does the energy certificate register publish?"

What it does

  • get_certificate: Get the full record of one energy certificate by its 20-digit certificate number: address, UPRN, assessment type, council and energy efficiency band. Keys vary by certificate type and schema version.
  • search_domestic_certificates: Search domestic (home) energy performance certificates by postcode, UPRN, address text, council, constituency, band or registration dates. At least one filter is required.
  • search_non_domestic_certificates: Search non-domestic (commercial) energy performance certificates by postcode, UPRN, address text, council, constituency, band or dates. At least one filter is required.
  • search_display_certificates: Search display energy certificates (DEC, for public buildings) by postcode, UPRN, address text, council, constituency, band or dates. At least one filter is required.
  • list_certificate_changes: List certificates that were removed or had their UPRN changed between two dates, useful for keeping a local copy in step. Dates may not include today.
  • list_code_tables: List the names of the coded fields (for example built_form) whose values can be decoded with get_code_values.
  • get_code_values: Decode one coded field: the meaning of each key (and schema version) for a code name from list_code_tables, optionally narrowed to one key or schema version.

BYOK key

You bring your own UK Energy Performance Certificates Energy Performance of Buildings Data API bearer token (https://get-energy-performance-data.communities.gov.uk/). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to api.get-energy-performance-data.communities.gov.uk over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
