What WakaTime (BYOK) is for

WakaTime (BYOK) lets an AI assistant read your own WakaTime data through the WakaTime API with a key you supply (OAuth access token (WakaTime documents API keys as write-only, so reading needs an access token from an OAuth app)). Read-only: 8 tools (get_stats, get_all_time_since_today, list_projects, get_durations, get_heartbeats, list_goals, get_insight, get_leaders). The BYOK key travels with each request, is used for that one call only and is never stored, logged or cached; it is only ever sent to wakatime.com. Ask your assistant things like:

  • "How many hours did I code in the last 7 days?"
  • "How much time have I spent coding in total with WakaTime?"
  • "Which projects have I tracked time on in WakaTime?"
  • "When did I code yesterday and on which projects?"
  • "What files was I editing on 2026-10-01?"
  • "Am I on track with my WakaTime goals?"

What it does

  • get_stats: Get your total coding time and daily average for a period (last 7 days, 30 days, a year, a month, all time), plus time per category.
  • get_all_time_since_today: Get your total coding time since you started using WakaTime, or for one project, with the date range covered.
  • list_projects: List your WakaTime projects with repository, first and last activity time. Can filter by name.
  • get_durations: Get your coding sessions for one day as blocks with start time, length in seconds and project (or another slice).
  • get_heartbeats: Get the raw activity records (heartbeats) of one day: file, language, project, branch, category and time.
  • list_goals: List your WakaTime coding goals with title, type, target seconds, status and the latest progress.
  • get_insight: Get one insight over a period, such as your languages, editors, projects, categories, best day or weekday pattern, as returned by WakaTime.
  • get_leaders: Get the public WakaTime leaderboard (top coders by time), optionally for one language or country, plus your own rank.

BYOK key

You bring your own WakaTime OAuth access token (WakaTime documents API keys as write-only, so reading needs an access token from an OAuth app) (https://wakatime.com/apps). Your assistant sends it in the X-Upstream-Key header with each request. ConnectorBay uses it for that one call only: it is never stored, logged or cached, never shown in an answer, and it is only sent to wakatime.com over https, with no redirects followed. Create a key with the fewest permissions the tools need (read-only if the provider offers it), and revoke it at the provider whenever you like.
